The highlight of Biodiversity week 2024 in Killarney National Park is a friendly competition with our fellow European nature sites and reserves - The ‘Natura 2000 Bioblitz’ and your mission with family and friends, is to help identify and record as many species in Killarney National Park as possible. On Saturday 25th May, Muckross School House, will be open from 10.00am -3.00pm. Various identification walks will take place throughout the day. Conservation Rangers, Ecologists and nature experts will be on hand to help identify your findings. No booking is required. Using the Obsidentify app https://observation.org/apps/obsidentify/

Cuach KP has landed in Ireland!!! BTO British Trust for Ornithology sightings and recordings puts him in Fermoy County Cork - and will no doubt head straight for Derrycunnihy Killarney National Park. According to Project Manager "at the time of his last signal KP was just 70km (43 miles) from the south east coast of Ireland. Once he makes landfall will he head straight to Killarney National Park, where he was tagged on 17 May last year.Hopefully we can bring you recordings of Cuach KP from Derrycunnihy on our next Cuckoo report! A ring of enormous sentimental value was lost in Killarney on Thursday night and the owner is desperate to get it back.
It is believed it was lost at a charity fashion show at the INEC and anybody that might find it is asked to get in contact.
The very distinctive ring - similar to the one photograph here except the two stones are red - belonged to a man who passed away suddenly last June and his wife is very anxious to be reunited with the piece of jewellery.
Anyone with any information or is asked to contact 086-2731474 and it would be greatly appreciated.

Base Extension Update: As our base extension works near completion, we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all who have donated to and fundraised for the team over the past year. From individuals to local businesses, schools, hillwalking/mountaineering clubs and scout groups, it has been a real community effort and your generosity is hugely appreciated. Special mention also to the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle (ROKCC) and all who cycled, volunteered and raised funds on behalf of the team. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir! The new extension will greatly improve our operations and ensure that we can continue to provide a top-class voluntary rescue service here in the South-West.

International Bat Night is observed by around 30 countries around the world and Killarney National Park - to bring to light the need for preserving this nocturnal species. The images shows one of the regular surveys of bats being carried out, along the River Deenagh.
