Today is All Ireland Senior Hurling Final Day. At 3.30 pm, Clare will take on Cork at Croke Park. For generations, we have gathered around radios and televisions to first listen and now watch this ancient sport in full flow.
Of course, as a Clareman, there can only be one winner 🏆.

Wonderful lunchtime gathering in Crotty's Kilrush as Kilrush and District Historical Society welcomed are friends in Ardfert Historical Society to Kilrush. The music was provided by the wonder Kelly Family en route to Scattery Island
Bonnie Prince Charlie has once again returned to his perch in our front window. St Patrick has been dispatched for another year!
Our shopfront received a fresh coat of paint over the weekend. It is once again shining for the summer ahead.
This is a wonderful piece of Kilrush architecture history. This is the screen in the side window of Crotty's. This mesh screen was once very common in bars and other commercial properties. Alas, like a lot of our built heritage, most have been removed. Once conserved, this screen will shine again.
A new era begins at Crotty's Market Square as my sister Naomi takes over as custodian of this historic and iconic building in the heart of Kilrush Town.
I wish her well on Crotty's revival.

At The Merchant's House and Store, we aim to be a green tourist business, each Thursday you can stroll from your accommodation across The Market Square to the weekly farmers market, fresh veg, eggs, treats and craft stalls. This week, they were joined by , you bring your own bottle, and have it refilled with fresh milk from the green fields of Clare. Yes, it tastes delicious 😋.

PJ Dillon was a Spirit Merchant at 76 Moore Street (Now The Fashion Gallery 43 Moore Street) at the turn of 19th & 20th century. Thank you, Paddy Waldron, who was able to provide a history of the Dillon family and the current location of 76.

Our winter maintenance and repainting is nearing an end as we prepare for our first guests of 2024 season. The Merchant's Wife portrait is one of our many art and print works that fill the walls of The House and Store. She looks graciously out and on to The Market Square, extending a warm welcome to all our guests.
On this day 212 years ago 28th December 1811 - the story of our house begins. Bartholemew Glynn signed a lease for three lives with John Ormsby Vandeleur. History is all around us. We are mere custodians of our house.

Our snug as we were putting up the Christmas decorations this evening in preparation for our Christmas and New Year guests. The calm in a place that you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Final call as The Hammer falls at The Auction Rooms, soon to be redeveloped as a Supermarket, built by The Ivers Family in 1733 as a Market House enlarged in 1950's as Ballroom and cinema. Having attended auctions for nearly 3 decades, today was my last pre auction viewing.
While travelling briefly through Tarbett, Co Kerry this afternoon, I spotted a gem of a house that I always admired was for sale. I presume a late Georgian Villa, a lot of original fixtures and fittings remain and amazing the meat hooks in the kitchen. The modern interventions, including uPVC windows, could easily be reversed. Hopefully, as it is not a Protected Structure that it finds a caring new owner.

During our spring clean and repainting, we changed around the prints over the fireplace. I had great fun going through my collection and selecting what to hang, but saying that I could change it all again .....
It's a wrap yesterday our good friends Ginny and Ian retired from running Kelly's Bar- Steak and Seafood House. Kelly's was a firm favourite with our guests and will be missed. However the time does come for new adventures and I wish Ginny and Ian a long and happy retirement.

The Snug this afternoon filled with sunlight on this beautiful spring day. Our refresh continues we have made a few changes to the advertising prints replacing and rearranging them. We hope you it.
Our spring clean and revamp continues, our special cast iron Victorian bath was given a face lift for the third time and hopefully the final time. As you may know she was salvaged from Kett O'Shea's on Henry Street, she spent 40 years resting in my store for wonderful items!! I believe she has reluctantly returned to full service.
Spring has arrived February 1st Bridget's Day & a new public holiday on Monday 6th February to honour this amazing Irish woman. In Kilrush we are blessed to a have a beautiful Stained Glass designed & created by Harry Clarke, installed in 1924 depicting Bridget healing and feeding the poor in wonderful technicolour.
The Merchant's Store all set for a refresh, everything packed and stacked, as The Store is prepped for repainting. We are making a few changes nothing dramatic, so we can be all set to welcome our wonderful guests.
Well a New Year, Its Time to Say Goodbye, wonderful thing about furnishings our homes with antique and vintage furniture, it is green & reusing items saving them from landfill. However the sofa has reach the end of its time with us and as part of our 2023 refresh it is available free to take away. This is bit of history can be collected this Thursday or Friday if possible. Message me if interested.
