✨ Ériu - Queen of Fertility, Abundance & Sovereignty

Ériu, often regarded as the personification of the land of Ireland itself embodying fertility, abundance and sovereignty. Her name derived from Old Irish conveys meanings of fullness, bounty and prosperity, reflecting her deep connection to the land and its offerings - she is the land !
As a member of the Tuatha Dé, Ériu and her kin were endowed with supernatural and magical powers, serving as protectors and custodians of Ireland in ancient times.

Our myths has it that the Milesians (the last wave of invaders) set off on an expedition and landed in Co. Kerry. They were led by Míl Espáine with his three sons. En route Mil lost his life but his three sons Éber, Érimón and Donn continued on the journey.
Ériu and her sisters Banbha and Fodhla stood against them protecting their lands. To secure her legacy, Ériu ascended the Sacred Hill of Uisneach, where she appealed to the poet Amergin, requesting that the land forever bear her name once her people had vanished. Her plea was honoured.
After the Milesian conquest, the Tuatha Dé were said to retreat into the Otherworld, the mystical realm hidden beneath Earth. In this supernatural kingdom they lived on as figures of legend, inspiring countless artists, poets and dreamers throughout the ages.
As guardians of the land and its sacred balance, their wisdom and connection to nature resonate even today.
In a world facing environmental challenges and a growing desire to reconnect with the Earth, perhaps it is Ériu’s ancient wisdom that we must recall. For in many ways Ériu is rising once again - a reminder of our duty to respect the land and its abundance, and to protect its sovereignty !

The Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival in County Clare, running from September 1st to 30th is one of the oldest running Irish Festivals at around 160-years-old 🎆

Originally a chance for young farmers to meet suitable partners outside of cattle markets and fairs, September became the peak month for matchmaking. Local matchmaker Willie Daly, and now his great-grandson, have been pivotal in this tradition.

Legend has it that placing your hands on the "Lucky Book" and thinking of love will lead to marriage within the year!

For visitors looking to experience something a bit different this fall, here are some reasons to add it to your trip:

🎻 Enjoy an impressive line-up of live music and dancing both midweek and at weekends.

💃 Learn to Square Dance or join in a ceili (lively form of traditional social dancing) as you mix and mingle with strangers and soon-to-be friends in pubs and bars.

🤝 Willie Daly provides his love-matching consultations from a seat at the Matchmaker Bar.

🍁 Take in the stunning fall scenery of Ireland, including the Cliffs of Moher nearby.

For a memorable and lively autumn adventure, the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival is a must-visit!
