On Saturday, November 30th, a poignant remembrance event was held at Vinegar Hill to honor those who lost their lives during the 1798 Rebellion. The gathering commenced at 1 p.m. at the Gaelscoil, where Pike Men and Women, joined by the Ballindaggin Pipe Band, marched solemnly to Vinegar Hill.
The event began at 2 p.m. with prayers offered by local clergy, followed by insightful historical context shared by guest speakers, including MC Barry Lacey, Chair of Enniscorthy Municipal District, and historians Seán MacPhilibin, Brian Cleary, and Jacqui Hynes. Attendees listened attentively as the sacrifices and significance of the 1798 Rebellion were commemorated.
The ceremony concluded with a wreath-laying and a moving rendition of Boolavogue, a song deeply associated with the rebellion. Following the formalities, attendees gathered at the IFA Centre in Enniscorthy, where refreshments were served, providing a moment to reflect and connect.
Organized by 98' le Chéile, with the support of Wexford County Council, the event was a heartfelt tribute to the memory of those who perished and a testament to the enduring importance of community and history.
There’s always an Irish connection. As I wandered through the City of London recently on my way to #TempleChurch I noticed this man and decided to have a chat with him.

I spent a lovely evening in #NewRoss last night enjoying County Wexford Culture Night and enjoying their offerings. At 6pm I joined Therese Dalton at her Filmmaking Workshop Using Mobile Devices with my friend Jim Scanlan. As part of that learning curve we ambled down to hear the New Ross Singers perform at the foot of the beautiful High Hill. As we arrived I could just see my friend Myles Courtney New Ross Street Focus leading off with his large #walkingtour group.
At 8pm there was 2 hours of films made by or connected to #Wexford in St. Michael's Theatre New Ross

Well I’m a little late in posting this. It’s a video of the wonderful day held in #Killanne #Wexford on June 25th 2023 to commemorate the 1798 rebellion and its connection to the one of the most important uprisings in the battle against English occupation of Ireland at the time.
It’s almost 35 minutes long so put the kettle on or pour yourself a small one with a drop of red diesel and enjoy. You might spot someone you know.
