We are experiencing a lot of challenge in the current business world as a result of the rapid rate of change.

It is important that leaders intentionally support their teams enabling them to perform at their best.

High Challenge Environment + Support = 𝑯𝑰𝑮𝑯 𝑷𝑬𝑹𝑭𝑶𝑹𝑴𝑨𝑵𝑪𝑬

I was caught off guard in this photo when reflecting on a great panel discussion that I had the pleasure of facilitating last week.

One of the key takeaways from the panel discussion was that 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒚 needs to be followed up with supportive 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 in order to have an impact.

In other words, when we feel empathy for somebody, we should ask ourselves the question “𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱/𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 ?”

Good leaders intentionally go beyond empathy and embrace compassionate leadership.

Compassionate leadership involves the following 4 steps:

1. Be present with your team - listen with fascination!
2. Understand where they are at via dialogue
3. Empathize with the situation - mirror their feelings
4. Taking intelligent action to help your team, and alleviate their pain points

➡️ 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 employees when they fail - have their backs.
➡️ 𝐄𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 employee well-being is as important as business outcomes.

Try replacing “𝘐’𝘮 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺,” with “𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶.”

👉 Instead of saying “𝘐’𝘮 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺, 𝘐’𝘮 𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦,” try “𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦.”

Replacing negativity with positivity and gratitude breaks the “𝘐’𝘮 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺,” cycle.

Here is a reminder on how to increase trust based on the 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:

𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 = (𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 + 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 + 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧) \ 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭

👉 Increase Credibility - know your stuff.
👉 Increase Reliability - do what you say you will do.
👉 Increase Connection with others - build positive relationships.

Start everyday planning to say each of these things and watch the results…

1️⃣ “𝑾𝑯𝑨𝑻 𝑫𝑶 𝒀𝑶𝑼 𝑵𝑬𝑬𝑫?”, people need to know that you care about them and that you want them to succeed.

2️⃣ “𝑻𝑬𝑳𝑳 𝑴𝑬 𝑴𝑶𝑹𝑬”, let people know you’re more interested in finding good answers than hearing yourself speak. Staying quiet is an invitation for others to share their ideas and insights.

3️⃣ “𝑰 𝑻𝑹𝑼𝑺𝑻 𝒀𝑶𝑼”, people need to know you trust their integrity, their judgement, their confidence, and their passion. They need to know you depend on them.

4️⃣ “𝒀𝑶𝑼 𝑪𝑨𝑵 𝑪𝑶𝑼𝑵𝑻 𝑶𝑵 𝑴𝑬”, people need to know you’ve got their back.
