Q. When is the Trout fishing season on Emy Lough? The season starts on 1st March and continues to the 30th of September. What type of fishing is available on Emy Lough? Fly-fishing with a rod and fly line with artificial fly for Trout only permitted on this lake for holders of day tickets or season permits. Fishing for other species
is prohibited (except to participants in competitions for removal of Pike during the off-season). If Pike or other species is caught whilst fishing for trout they must not be returned to the water and must be placed in the holding tanks provided and the angler must notify Liam Murray Inland Fisheries Ireland Officer who will arrange for their removal to other waters. for holders of day tickets or season permits. Anglers become members of the club for insurance purposes on the issue of a day ticket or a season permit. Applications for Season Permits are subject to approval and availability by ringing the above number. What information is needed for membership applications? Name, address and mobile telephone number necessary. (Also date of birth for juniors). These details are need to keep you informed of Club events. How much does a day ticket cost? Day tickets for all or part day €10.00. Juniors (persons under age 18 years of age) €5.00 for all or part day. An additional Angler insurance cover charge of €5.00 for day ticket anglers is required on the first day ticket in any season. Are there boats available for hire on the Lough? Three Boats are available for use by holders of day tickets or season permits at a Summertime charge of €15.00 for a part day from 10 am to 4:00 pm, or from 4:00 pm to 10:00 am. (Wintertime charge is €15.00 per day or part day)
Q. Can I use a Motor on the boat? Only Electric motors may be used on the boats if supplied by the angler. Motors must be disinfected at the jetty before use to prevent the spread of Zebra Mussels. Can Boats be reserved in advance? Boats can be booked in advance by season permit holders only for all or part day up to one week in advance of the fishing date and if booked must be paid for regardless of weather or fishing conditions. Can I take a passenger in the boat? Persons not holding day tickets or season permits are not permitted to be in the boats. Junior anglers are not permitted to be in a boat unless accompanied by an adult angler. What safety restrictions are required by the club? Life-jackets must be worn by all anglers when fishing. Boat Anglers must not cut across the drift of another drifting boat within 100 metres. Boat anglers must not go within 100 metres of shore anglers (without permission). Is there a bag limit on Emy Lough? A Bag limit of Two Trout per angler per day or part day is applied and day tickets, season permits, fishing bags and other equipment must be made available on request for inspection by any of the water keepers on production of their identification. A Size Limit Minimum 11 inches (27.94 cm) nose to tail V applies. Any person fishing in breach of the club rules may forfeit fish and equipment to the water keepers and will not be permitted to fish the lake again at the discretion of the Committee. Breach of rules or illegal fishing should be reported immediately to any of the Water Keepers. (Contact numbers over)
