Ennistymon or Ennistimon

(Irish: Inis Díomáin) is a country market town in County Clare, near the west coast of Ireland. The River Inagh, with its small rapids known as the Cascades, runs through the town, behind the main street. A bridge across the river leads to nearby Lahinch, on the N67 national secondary road. The town is connected to Ennis by the N85, continuing the settlement's main street.

I created this composite artwork featuring Thoor Ballylee, the former Summer home of Nobel Laureate W. B. Yeats, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Yeats winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923.

This 15th Century Tower House along County Galway's Streamstown River near Gort was Yeats' Summer home from 1919 to 1929 where he found inspiration to write some of his most famous works including "The Winding Stair," "The Tower" and "Coole Park and Ballylee."

The all-volunteer Yeats Thoor Ballylee Society has lovingly restored and maintains the property with fascinating displays honouring Yeats' legacy. It's well worth a visit.

Did you know that Craggaunowen Castle was was built circa1550 by John MacSioda MacNamara, a descendant of Sioda MacNamara 🏰

The castle was left in ruins in the 17th century until it was inherited in 1821 by "Honest" Tom Steele, a confederate of Daniel O'Connell.

Steele had the castle rebuilt as a summer house in the 1820s. Following his death in 1848 the lands were divided with Craggaunowen to his niece Maria Studdert. Eventually, having passed through the hands of his descendants, the castle and grounds were acquired by the Irish Land Commission.

Craggaunowen Castle was restored by John Hunt in the 1960s. Hunt added an extension to the ground floor, which for a while housed part of his collection of antiquities. This collection now resides in the Hunt Museum in Limerick City.

Today the castle houses several artifacts from its era as well and is open for visitors to enjoy during the summer months.

⚠THE VIKING ARE COMING ⚠

Word has reached us of a the planned Viking Invasion of Cragggaunowen on Saturday May 27th and Sunday May 28th!!

But don't be too frightened, although there will be battles daily, we will also see the calmer side to these ferocious warriors in the Viking Village.

Here we will see Vikings demonstrating their skills which include silversmiths, hunting and fishing techniques, Viking cooking and much more.

There will also be plenty of kid friendly, Viking themed games to keep little ones entertained and enthralled over the course of the weekend.
