CSL recently carried out an extensive renovation of a municipal drinking water reservoir and associated control buildings on the East of the country.

The revamping of the reservoir included the installation of solar panels onto the site. Solar PV panels were installed onto the reservoir roof, which had extensive space available that CSL assessed would be perfect for use. CSL also installed PV solar panels onto the roof of the control building, which will provide a source of renewable energy for the site while helping to reduce its carbon footprint.

CSL, as part of the current Construction Industry Federation Safety Campaign, are proud to promote safety awareness across all our sites.

Our awareness promotion this month, along with Uisce Éireann Irish Water , is around the theme of “Am I Safe.” We concentrated on Chemical Awareness and Lockout Tagout (LOTO) procedures for our latest focus.

The SAFE in “Am I Safe” stands for:

• S STOP and think ‘What If?’. What are the potential dangers?
• A ASSESS the task, work area, and equipment.
• F FOLLOW the procedures on the method statements.
• E ENGAGE with your supervisor if an aspect of the task has changed and requires deviation from the plan.

Due to the nature of our work in the water and waste-water industry, electrical works and exposure to chemicals are critical risks CSL are regularly faced with. They must be managed accordingly. The various potential risks of these works must be considered. At a safety stand down on two of our sites in Leinster, a presentation was provided to our staff on the risk associated with chemical awareness and our LOTO procedures.

In water & wastewater treatment plants we are exposed to a variety of hazardous chemical agents. These chemical agents provide a wide range of risks to personnel – it is crucial these risks are understood and all necessary precautions are taken.

CSL were pleased to supply and install a containerised gas chlorination plant for a client in the south west. This was designed based upon the three decades of experience that we have in the field. Each of these portable chlorination plants are built specifically to meet the clients requirements and the site conditions.

The system consisted of two chlorinators acting as duty/standby, two chlorine manifolds, auto changeover, water pumps, a gas detection system, a chlorine monitor, and a complete cylinder shutdown system all housed in a walk-in container. A bespoke control panel provides seamless manual and automatic control to achieve desired chlorine residual levels, it incorporates a large HMI display for ease of operator control

CSL recently completed a Poly and Alum Dosing reconfiguration on a water treatment plant, to improve site safety, efficiency and ultimately water quality.

We were tasked with the removal and replacement of old Alum tanks and Poly tanks. This allowed for a rework of what was an already difficult floor plan due to concrete bases and plinths.

As we had a limited time period to complete the works, we opted to keep civil works to a minimum and install a raised platform supported by existing concrete lintels.

The existing Poly make-up required an operator to manually batch in the poly and water and mix using an air supply. We installed a Kozegho Poly Make Unit to ensure efficient and consistent mixing, we have installed many of these and are very happy with their performance to date.

The Alum day tanks were replaced by a 500lr day tank and bund with Auto fill function and fail-safe filling system.
The dosing pumps were all relocated to more suitable positions, with pipework and electrics changed accordingly.
To complete the work we installed new lighting and heat in the room.
