Of all the spots on the tour, the Forty Foot bathing place is always a fan favourite! The Forty Foot is famous for its excellent bathing conditions and guests will see people enjoy them all year round, whatever the weather🌊

While measurements show this cove to be to be an average of 25 feet deep at full tide, the name likely derived from an army regiment known as the 40th Regiment of Foot stationed nearby in the Joyce Tower in the early 1800s. From this we can guess that they were frequent bathers - not so different from those we saw today over 200 years later😀

Dalkey Island, as seen from the coast on a tour recently. Our "Thorn Island" was home to some of the first Stone Age settlers on the east coast of Ireland with some artifacts dating back to over 6,000 years ago. It was also a Viking stronghold, the location of a church to St. Begnet, and home of one of Dublin’s 25 Martello Towers. Nowadays you'll see more goats and rabbits than people!
