Ah, London City Airport, the jewel in the crown of aviation convenience—or as I like to call it, the airport that makes you feel like a time traveler. If you've ever flown into the sprawling monstrosity that is Heathrow or the labyrinthine maze of Gatwick, you’ll understand why City Airport is a breath of fresh air, albeit one that’s slightly tinged with the smell of fish and chips.
First off, let’s talk about the location. Nestled in the heart of London’s Docklands, it’s practically a stone’s throw from the city. You can practically hear the sound of Big Ben chiming as you disembark. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a ferry or two struggling against the tide. It’s charming, really—if you enjoy the sight of cargo ships instead of palm trees.
Now, let’s discuss the size. City Airport is the David to Heathrow’s Goliath. You’ll find it’s so compact that you could practically jog from check-in to your gate without breaking a sweat. In fact, you might even have time to stop for a cheeky pint at the bar before your flight. Just try that at Heathrow, and you’ll end up sprinting like a contestant on a game show, dodging families dragging massive suitcases and bewildered tourists.
Speaking of tourists, they seem to have missed the memo about City Airport. It’s like a secret club for business travelers and the occasional jet-setter who wants to avoid the chaos. You won’t find hordes of people taking selfies in front of the terminal. Instead, you’ll encounter a few well-dressed individuals, probably discussing hedge funds or the latest in corporate espionage over a flat white. It’s so civilised that you might feel the urge to don a bowler hat and start quoting Shakespeare.
And let’s not forget the landing experience. Flying into City Airpor

New Zealand is one of those places. It’s too perfect, too grand, too absurdly beautiful. It looks like something someone sketched during a particularly ambitious dream after a bit too much merlot.
The roads are narrow, twisty, and, like everything in New Zealand, endlessly scenic. Every time you turn a corner, there’s another snow-capped peak towering above you or a waterfall hurtling down a cliff with such speed it looks like the water is in a race against time. You’re in a country that looks like the set of The Lord of the Rings, but with far fewer elves and a lot more sheep…. Then again it is Lord of the Rings studio tour really ! . These are the Southern Alps .
Milford Sound, except it’s not a sound, really—it’s a fjord, a long, narrow inlet surrounded by jagged mountains, lush forests, and waterfalls that drop hundreds of feet into the water below. The whole place is so spectacular that you’ll almost certainly spend the first 15 minutes looking around in disbelief, wondering if you’ve just stumbled onto some remote corner of Jurassic Park. You half expect a pterodactyl to swoop overhead, but instead, all you get are a few visitors with the same wide open mouths staring upwards . We are all here overwhelmed by the sheer scale of our surroundings .
And here’s the thing: as much as you might be tempted to crack a joke about the place, you can’t. You can’t because it’s too magnificent. It’s as if Mother Nature decided to show off, gathering all her best bits—the soaring cliffs, the cascading waterfalls, the glacial waters—into one perfect corner of the world. You can’t help but feel humbled. And in a strange way, you also feel a bit ashamed of yourself for not having visited sooner.
In the end, Milford Sound is everything you’ve heard it is—and more. It’s one of those rare places where you leave feeling as though you’ve seen something that can’t be replicated. It’s the kind of place where you go in with a certain a
