Loving Ennis, just 15 min away.
An early morning encounter in the woods down the road. A young fox pinned me with an intent stare as I did my morning walk. Young enough not to be to fearful and almost camouflaged in the fallen leaves. A lovely tray on a bright November morning.

Today in the front garden. A weak winter sun, frosted fennel flowers and a thin white blanket everywhere. A dry cold that tells you it a true winter’s day in December, and we’re all cozy inside Casa Ceoil.
Goodbye “the digger”! He was with us for almost 20 years, from the earliest work, renovations, clean ups and more. Did all the heavy lifting, digging, scraping and moving. There wasn’t a job he wouldn’t be used for.
Need to move the chicken coop? Need to do some fencing? Move concrete? Clean the yard? Shift boulders? Dig up boulders? Move building blocks? Clean up the pond? Use the digger.
We were sad to let him go, especially Kevin, who was the main driver. Farewell The Digger and thank you for all the dreams you helped fulfill!
A sister of another mother. Our cow, Missy Moo, has calved a beautiful CharolaisX calf (the lighter one). As she is prone to mastitis and has an overflow of milk, she fostered another calf. Which is what we normally do. Unfortunately she did get mastitis, probably had it before her own calf was born, so the whole fostering process took a good bit longer than the normal five days. They’re all out in the fields now and both calves are doing great.
After so much work and so much prep, my tunnel was looking fab this year. Then…the sheep broke in and left a disaster. They ate so much of what I had planted. The only saving grace was that they didn’t touch the tomatoes. And here we are, with a regular, fantastic and tasty harvest of gorgeous, multi sized and multicoloured tomatoes.
Thankfully a lot of what the sheep ate is coming back, so maybe the hot weather and my handy drip watering system will save the day.
My biggest disappointment is that I won’t have my fab gemsquashes, Rolets, which are not sold in any shop but ones I grow every year…none now, thanks to the sheep.

A newborn on the farm. Tiny little heifer and so so sooo cute. Born from our chilled out cow Missy Moo.

A new venture on the farm. This is a longtime dream of mine, but each year has been just to busy to get started. Last year we left an empty hive at a friends house. They get regular swarms and are happy to share, and yesterday I brought my hive home…in the car! 😱
Hopefully the rest will be as easy.
Many thanks to .clothing !! 🐝🐝🐝
This is a first on the farm, our first foal. Friendly and sprightly, still learning manners but you can see she’ll be a lovely horse. She belongs to our girls, who are still arguing about the name…it seems to be leaning towards Dolce, so I hope she’ll be sweet. 😄

Long awaited and finally here. More than lambs, almost as much as baby goats, but I have to admit being a Crazy For Cows Lady and my first calf is finally here! Oprah broke out into a tiny paddock and I figured she wouldn’t go far, but this smart cow knew exactly where she was and where to find shelter when she calved. They have both trampled all my bluebells (see previous post), but who cares! . . . . #newborncalf #farmlifebestlife #instaireland
On a sunny day, not today, we’re bonding with the kids...the Pygmy goat kids that is. Nameless yet, but we’ll get there. They are such fun to watch and a true indulgence on the farm, apart from being cute and always giving you a laugh, they have no real practical purpose on the farm. I guess you can’t discredit the happiness of having them around, specially during the blanket boredom of Covid times. Life is busy at the moment and I’ve almost forgotten to post for the lambing season that has started. Our flock is very small, but enough for our land and needs. Few things are as rewarding as seeing the young lambs hit the grass for the first time. This video was from last weekend, when the weather was warmer. They’re currently inside during this current freeze and possible snow. Any big scale farmer will tell you that I spoil my sheep. That there’s no need and that they’ll manage fine inside. All true, but with a small flock every lamb counts and I seldom lose one. This has been another year of twins, from every ewe lambing. A few complications. But all good I. The end. This is another fab time in farming. Stressful, but so enjoyable and rewarding as well. . . . . . #lambingtime🐑 #lambingtimeonthefarm #lambingtimeofyear #lambingtime😍 #countryliving #lambs #lambsofinstagram🐑 #springlambs #sheepofinstagram #sheepfarm #farmlife #countrylife #airbnb #holidayrental #vacationrental #visitireland #irelandofthewelcomes #discoverireland #irelandtravel #loveireland #exploreireland #staycation #tourismireland #instaireland #westofireland #countyclare

In the morning it’s so easy. Oprah walks into the shed by herself to feed the new suckler calves, no problems and no bother. But in the dark evenings now, it is an adventure, one where I end up cursing and hoping I will not collide with my black cow in the darkness as I run to catch up with her, while she sprints away from the gate. . #crazycow #soannoying #stillmyfavorite #iforgiveyou #stillfarming #cows #calves #countryliving #countrylife #westofireland #ireland
