Last weekend, the Tantur Ecumenical Institute hosted a wonderful fair inviting local monasteries to showcase and sell their unique products, including handmade chocolates, ceramics, nativity figurines, and more. Zadok Ben-David, one of Israel’s most renowned contemporary artists, is known for his striking metal sculptures that create optical illusions and seamlessly blend with their surroundings. His work explores themes of identity, memory, and the natural world.

Currently at the Tower of David, his exhibition “On The Other Side” reflects the pain felt by Israelis and Jews worldwide. Through nature-inspired images, it explores the tension between man and nature—loss and renewal, darkness and light, despair and optimism.

Fun fact: In a previous exhibition, “People I Saw But Never Met”, our very own Nathan was spotted among 6000 metal figures! After Nathan’s granddaughter recognized him, Lior (Nathan’s son and Shatour’s general manager and one of our best guides) reached out to Ben-David, who was so thrilled he sent Nathan his very own figurine, which is now hanging on a wall in his home in Jerusalem.
