🧿Athens Greece ... the top things to see and do there.
🧿Athens is like a "gem" , every corner has a story to tell...
It is a meeting of the old with the new, history, archeology, trendy bars, concerts, taverns, good food, excellent cafes and Instreams, shopping, ouzo, fascinating tours, graffiti and more...
Below is a suggested list of my top things to see and do in Athens.
1. If it's your first time in Athens, take a tour with a Hop-On bus,
or a guided tour , to tour the most famous sites in downtown Athens. These are great ways to get an initial overview of the city from different points and then explore it at your own time.
2. A visit to the Acropolis and the Parthenon Acropolis, an ancient citadel located on a hill above the city of Athens, where there are remains of ancient buildings such as the Temple of Athena Nike, the Archatheum, the Propylaea and the famous - the Parthenon.
It is recommended to order tickets in advance (especially during the tourist season)
3. The Plaka: "get lost" in the colorful alleys of the Plaka neighborhood, which is located below the Acropolis, with the colorful neoclassical houses, the small stone-paved alleys and the artisan shops, restaurants and taverns, stop and taste... refresh yourself with a glass Cold frappe. Nearby, you'll find the whitewashed houses of the Anafiotika neighborhood, which will make you feel like you're on one of the Greek islands.
4. Monastiraki Square: Below Plaka you will find Monastiraki Square. This busy and lively square is filled with all the souvenir shops, modern cafes, taverns with a live band for a romantic dinner, and of course lots of places where you can eat authentic Greek food. As you stroll through Monstiraki, you can also see other iconic landmarks such as the ancient Agora, the columns of Hadrian's library and more for antique lovers - the antique market is located between Ermo and Ipsto streets.
5. Enjoy the night life in Athens: bars on the roofs of the hotels, restaurants and more.
Rooftops = A for Athens The Pinnacle
Taverns with live music, performances by Nikos Vertis (in winter) and others. The most active nightlife is in the neighborhood of Gazi, Kolonaki Pasiri and more.
6. Psyri: a lively neighborhood that combines art, taverns, nightlife, special cafes, wine bars and history. Located on the north side of Monastiraki Square, it's hard to miss Little KooK - it's a Mary Poppins-themed cafe that serves delicious desserts and drinks, with a colorful and unique design. There is also a Chabad house and a kosher restaurant in Psiri.
7. The Changing of the Guards in Syntagma Square - The Greek Parliament building is an impressive building built in classical Greek style, and stands in the center of Athens, near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Every Sunday at 11:00, held outside the impressive building A changing of the guard ceremony and an impressive military parade, with colorful uniforms and changing of flags.
8. Culinary tour in Athens, private or organized - a tour of the market of Athens and the secrets it embraces, visiting and tasting the wonderful bakeries, fine handmade ice cream, black coffee brewed on hot sand with shells Candied oranges, traditional desserts - such as locomotes, secret taverns, pita souffle and more
9. Vouliagmeni lake: Vouliagmeni lake - a natural and spectacular lake located in one of the most prestigious suburbs of Athens, the suburb itself includes excellent hotels, excellent taverns, cafes and a bustling nightlife. The lake It is one of the most special and mysterious natural sites in the Attica region of Greece. It is a lake whose water temperature ranges from 22-29 degrees throughout the year. There is a fee to enter it, but it is definitely worth the experience, after spending time and bathing in the lake you can eat at an excellent restaurant that goes there Louizidis on Ermou Street in Valiagmani, serving fine homemade Greek food. You can easily spend at least half a day or even a whole day.
10. Shopping: Athens is also an excellent destination for cheap shopping/
With dozens of local chains, huge malls and shopping boulevards full of all the best the city has to offer. Shopping in Athens is not a bad addition at all to a pampering vacation in the city. Ermo Street, the largest shopping avenue in Athens - a huge and delightful pedestrian mall for shopaholics - full of stores of all kinds, famous international chains such as H&M, ZARA, MAC, FOOT LOCKER, NIKE and many more... Malls - the well-known and best mall is: The Mall Athens or Athens Metro Mall shopping rentals Monstraki, Kolonaki, Psiri and more. There are also outlets for economical shopping and one Jumbo - the large stock store.
