Orr Shalom is Israel's largest not for profit charity caring for severely abused and neglected children who have been removed from their homes to protect them. The charity currently cares for 1,300 children and young people by placing them in safe, loving therapeutic homes of up to eleven with a married couple serving as house parents and a psychologist, social worker, academic tutor and counselor
on staff. This is to give the children the best chance to recover from their traumatic past and look forward to a better future. Orr Shalom cares for children-at-risk from across the spectrum of Israeli society including religious, secular, Jews, Arabs, special needs children, children of native-born Israelis and children of immigrants. While we need to put roofs over their heads, care for Orr Shalom children extends far beyond their urgent physical needs. We firmly believe that Orr Shalom children deserve the right investment so that they can prepare for happier and more stable futures. With this constantly in mind, we strive to give each child not only a loving home, but also the best education, skills, qualifications and support possible, as well as other character-building and key life experiences that their normative peers are fortunate to enjoy.
