The ‘Amrit Snan’ of Maha Kumbh 2025 took place on Basant Panchami, drawing hundreds of thousands of devotees to the sacred Triveni Sangam for a holy dip. Pilgrims were welcomed with showers of flower petals, adding to the divine atmosphere of this auspicious occasion.
Sadhus Lead the Way!
Ash-smeared Naga Sadhus from various akharas began their ceremonial journey to Triveni Sangam at dawn, followed by a massive influx of devotees. By 4 am, 16.58 lakh devotees had taken the holy dip, bringing the total to 34.97 crore participants since January 13. This included 10 lakh Kalpvasis and 6.58 lakh pilgrims.
Each akhara was allotted a 40-minute window for rituals, with the first procession completing the sacred bath by 8:30 am. The Udaseen sect performed the last ‘Amrit Snan,’ marking the culmination of the ceremonial bathing process. Over 1 million Kalpvasis, observing month-long spiritual asceticism, contributed to the deep sense of devotion on this special day.
Basant Panchami, believed to be the birth anniversary of Maa Saraswati, holds immense spiritual significance. Taking a dip in Maa Ganga on this day is said to bestow blessings of wisdom and purity. Devotees from all walks of life, including pilgrims, saints, Naga Sadhus, and even police personnel, offered prayers and participated in the sacred rituals, contributing to the spiritual fervour and inclusivity of the ‘Amrit Snan.’
