**Common Mistakes During Hajj and Umrah**

In the words of Asma Bint Shameem, the noble Companion, Hudhayfah Bin Yaman, "People used to ask the Prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about good things, but I used to ask him about bad things because I was afraid that they might overtake me."

Here's a list of some of the extremely common mistakes made by scores of people during Hajj and Umrah. Being aware of these mistakes can help us protect ourselves from making them and ensure that our pilgrimage is closer to the Sunnah and more acceptable to Allah.

**Mistake 1:** Thinking that Du’a is accepted at first glance of the Ka’bah

Many people mistakenly believe that any Du’a made when first looking at the Ka’bah will be answered. However, there is no evidence from the Shariah to support this belief. Sheikh Sa’d Al-Humayd clarified that acts of worship should be based on clear and unambiguous evidence.

**Mistake 2:** ‘Kissing’ the Black Stone from far away and stopping during Tawaf to do so

While kissing the Black Stone is a Sunnah, attempting to do so from a distance or stopping during Tawaf to mimic the act causes disruption and inconvenience to fellow pilgrims. The Prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) only kissed the Black Stone when possible, otherwise, he pointed towards it from afar and said "Allāhu Akbar".

**Mistake 3:** Shouting out Du’a in unison

Shouting Du’as in unison during Tawaf causes confusion and disturbs others. It's advisable to plan Du’as ahead of time, reciting them with humility and concentration.

**Mistake 4:** Designating specific Du’as for specific rounds

There is no evidence in the Shariah to support the practice of assigning specific Du’as for each round of Tawaf. The only Du’a specified by the Prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during Tawaf was recited between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone.

**Mistake 5:** Doing Tawaf on someone else’s behalf

Performing Tawaf on behalf of others is not valid according to the Shariah. Hajj and Umrah can be performed on behalf of others, but Tawaf cannot.

**Mistake 6:** Multiple Umrahs

Performing multiple Umrahs in a single trip is discouraged and not from the Sunnah. Instead, focus on performing as many Tawaf as possible for oneself.

**Mistake 7:** Thinking that the Jamarat are devils

The Jamarat are not devils. Stoning them is an act of worship to remember Allah, not to harm any entity.

**Mistake 8:** Touching or wiping over the Ka’bah

Touching the Ka’bah or Maqam Ibrahim, or wiping over the pillars of the Grand Mosque, has no basis in Islamic Shariah.

**Mistake 9:** Thinking that praying 40 prayers in Madina is compulsory

Completing 40 prayers in the Prophet’s Mosque is not compulsory and is based on a weak Hadith.

Let's strive to avoid these mistakes and adhere closely to the teachings of the Prophet (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during our pilgrimage journey.

Best regards,

# # Embark on a Spiritual Journey: Hajj and Umrah in 2024

For Muslims worldwide, the prospect of performing Hajj or Umrah is a cherished dream. These sacred journeys to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah hold immense spiritual significance and offer a unique opportunity to connect with one's faith and community.

**Hajj 2024** takes place from **June 3rd to June 8th** (estimated dates based on the Islamic lunar calendar). It is a mandatory pilgrimage for all able-bodied Muslims who can afford it, performed once in their lifetime. This year, applications for pilgrims from outside Saudi Arabia are expected to resume after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

**Umrah**, however, can be undertaken at any time throughout the year. It's a shorter pilgrimage, seen as a "minor pilgrimage" compared to Hajj, but still holds significant spiritual rewards.

**Here are some resources to help you plan your Hajj or Umrah in 2024:**

* **Official Saudi Arabian Hajj and Umrah Ministry website**: [https://www.haj.gov.sa/](https://www.haj.gov.sa/) (English and Arabic)
* **Reputable travel agencies specializing in Hajj and Umrah**: These agencies can help you with visa applications, travel arrangements, accommodation, and guidance during your pilgrimage.
* **Islamic educational resources**: Familiarize yourself with the rituals and requirements of Hajj and Umrah beforehand. Several websites and organizations offer comprehensive information and guidance.

**Important considerations for 2024:**

* **Hajj applications:** The application process for international pilgrims is expected to resume. Specific details and deadlines will be announced by the Saudi authorities.
* **Health requirements:** As of now, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is still required for entry into Saudi Arabia. Be sure to stay updated on any changes closer to your travel date.
* **Planning and preparation:** Regardless of whether you're planning for Hajj or Umrah, it's crucial to start planning and preparing early, especially for Hajj due to its specific requirements and limited quota for international pilgrims.

**Remember:**

Hajj and Umrah are both deeply personal and spiritually fulfilling experiences. Whether you're planning your journey for 2024 or beyond, approach it with sincerity, dedication, and a pure heart. May your pilgrimage be a blessed and enriching experience.
