In my 12 years of wildlife safaris to many tiger reserves, I had seen wild dogs, wild dogs eating a deer, Have seen tigers eating deer, but not a hunt , killing prey and then eating. Only once I had seen a leopard in Kabini hunt and kill a langur.
The safari was silent as we did not have any alarm calls or any movement of tigers or leopards, we were just ambling across the forest tracks to a point which was the end of the path and we had to turn back. Once we turned back, there were 4 wild dogs walking towards us and we were happy that we did sight some wildlife in the forest and in about 4 and half minutes, there was the time when we were emotional , excited . Emotional because we saw the wild dogs chasing and hunting a deer fawn, eating it while it was alive, it passed away within a minute with a lot of pain. Excited we were as we had not seen a live hunt.
When the other vehicles started arriving at the scene, there was no trace of the deer carcass as the wild dogs had finished and there were 3 small pups who were competing for the head of the deer as a trophy and they all vanished inside the bushes.
