Arunachala Hill Thiruvannamalai Maha Deepam:
The Arunachaleswarar Temple is a significant Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and located in the town of Thiruvannamalai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The temple is one of the largest in India and is particularly renowned for its association with the festival of Karthikai Deepam.

Karthikai Deepam is a festival celebrated in the Tamil month of Karthikai (usually November or December) and is considered one of the oldest festivals in the state. It coincides with the Kartika Pournami, which is the full moon day in the month of Karthikai. The main event of the festival is the lighting of a huge lamp known as the "Maha Deepam" on the hill of Arunachala, visible from miles around.

Here's a brief overview of the celebration:

1. **Lighting of the Maha Deepam:** The festival begins with the lighting of the Maha Deepam on the sacred hill of Arunachala. A huge cauldron is filled with ghee (clarified butter), and a wick made of several meters of cloth is immersed in it. This wick is then lit, and the flame is used to light the main lamp. This event draws thousands of devotees and tourists to Thiruvannamalai, and the sight of the lit lamp is considered highly auspicious.

2. **Devotee Participation:** Devotees often take a circumambulation (pradakshina) around the Arunachala hill during the festival. Many also visit the Arunachaleswarar Temple to offer prayers and seek blessings.

3. **Religious Significance:** The festival is significant in Hindu mythology, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and the dispelling of ignorance. Lord Shiva is worshipped during this festival, and it is believed that lighting the lamp on the hill is a form of worship to seek Lord Shiva's blessings.
