These birds are feed on the ground or on low shrubs and grass stalks. They constantly utter a low cheeping or chirping contact call as they forage. They visit water and drink with a rapid sip and swallow action. Their feed on a wide range of grass seeds and will also make use of crop species.

Latpanchar is far from the hustle and bustle of city life and is free from pollution. In Latpanchar tourists and solo travelers feels a sense of heaven. This place is a hot spot for tourist destination because it has a vast number of different species of rare and exotic birds and butterflies along with a Wildlife Sanctuary and beautiful floras.

ORIENTATION:-
Latpanchar is famous for birds, in particular the Rufus Necked Hornbill and other Himalayan birds. The name Latpanchar in the Lepcha language means a place where cane grows. It is adjacent to the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary. KRIPA HOMESTAY is just near the gateway of Latpanchar Forest area and is surrounded by garden full of flowers and fruits. The Latpanchar KRIPA HOMESTAY is situated at an altitude of about 4,500 feet.

THE PROPERTY:-
Our KRIPA HOMESTAY is unique in many ways. Unlike the homestays located in the crowded market area of Latpanchar, this Homestay is totally secluded with trees and gardens all around. It is also closer to the Hub of Hornbill movement in the area. The visitors staying at Latpanchar come down to KRIPA HOMESTAY for a glimpse of the hornbill. Apart from the Hornbill, there are many varieties of Himalayan birds which can be spotted in this region.

KRIPA HOMESTAY is run by Saran Gurung who himself is a birder and have a vast knowledge of Birds & Birding. Saran Gurung being a local is polite in nature and holds vast knowledge of the different species of birds, butterflies, and animals found in latpanchar. Guests and Tourists can get a lot of information from him regarding its surroundings, sightseeing in latpanchar and viewpoints in latpanchar and also information on trekking, etc.

Food is basic and hygienic; we try to incorporate local ingredients to the best extent possible which are grown totally organic way without use of any chemical fertilizer.

Tourists and Solo Travelers can visit Mongpoo / Mongpu through Sitong (Sittong) Village (also known as Orange Village) from Latpanchar. The places are about an hour and half drive from the Latpanchar village. While in Mongpoo, you can visit the famous Rabindranath Tagore House. Tourists can also drive to the nearby place Chatakpur which is situated in Darjeeling District from latpanchar. From Latpanchar, Tourists can also visit popular places like Sonada or Kurseong. Bagora is another small village located a few kilometers from latpanchar is also known for its natural beauty and peacefulness.

HOW TOREACHLATPANCHAR:-
Siliguri to Latpanchar
Latpanchar from Siliguri is about 44kms away. The nearest railway station to Latpanchar is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP). Nearest Airport to Latpanchar is Bagdogra Airport. Tourists can hire a car directly from Bagdogra Airport or can ask the Homestay to make arrangements for a Car which is far more trouble-free.

The same way tourists arriving at NJP can hire a local cars directly to Latpanchar village or give a call at the Homestay number asking them to provide a car straightaway to Latpanchar. The latter turns out to be a better option because tourists end up paying exact charges rather than ending up paying more.
