This endemic beauty is an arboreal and nocturnal species which is named after its large scales, but importantly; Pit vipers are called so due to the presence of a prominent heat sensitive pit. The`pit' is a noticeable depression situated on the head of a pit viper between the nostril and the eye. Hump Nosed Pit Viper (Adult male)
Scientific name = 𝘏𝘺𝘱𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘺𝘱𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘦
A highly venomous pit viper found in Goa..
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 :- The Story behind this photo is a bit interesting. After 3 days hectic treks and trails, we literally stop hoping to encounter a hump nosed pit viper. It was our last day in Goa and we have already packed up our luggage. Suddenly our naturalist came to me and told me that we have a surprise visitor at our homestay's garden. I rushed there and found this beautiful guy.😀
