The line from Mettupalayam to Coonoor was completed and opened for traffic on June 15, 1899. The extension to Ootacamund was constructed by the Government and opened for traffic in 1908. From 1903 to 1907, the Mettupalayam—Coonoor line was worked by Madras Railway Company on behalf of the Government.

Science Park in Coimbatore city opened to the public!

📍Tatabad Road Coimbatore

The city corporation has launched work to revive the defunct science park at Tatabad at a cost of 50 lakh.
The science park, near the corporation school on Alagappa Chettiar Road, was set up 15 years ago on 30 cents of land at a cost of 50 lakh. It gradually lost its attraction as the equipment deteriorated, requiring replacement.
The corporation has allocated 50 lakh in the budget to revive the facility, an engineer in charge of the park said. “We will retain some old equipment in good shape and replace the rest. Workers are installing equipment that will help children see and understand scientific concepts, including a giant globe and models of rockets. The park will also have a statue of late President A P J Abdul Kalam,” he said. “The old equipment is getting a coat of paint.”

The park has over 35 installations, including models of cars, types of gears & many more.

The entry is free & the park is open to the public from 7 am to 10 am and for the use of students & teachers from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm.
