Darjeeling district covers an area of 1,234 square miles supported by its sub-divisions of kurseong (kharsang) & Mirik. Darjeeling was established as a sanatorium and health resort by the British in an around 1835-1850. Gradually roads were opened followed by the grand opening of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in 1881.

HOW TO REACH DARJEELING?
If you want to fly to Darjeeling, the nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport, Siliguri. If train is your way of doing it then New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the nearest railway station. Assuming that you have reached either of these locations, from both these locations private taxis are available which should take you roughly around 3-4 hours of travel to reach Darjeeling. You also have the leverage of taking a public bus from Siliguri bus stand (7km from NJP) which is comparatively cheaper but with a bit of a hassle (nothing comes for free).Now if you are that kind of a traveler/tourist with ampere time in hand & want to take it in a slow pace….waaallllaaaa…!!!! Good news for you, we also have a designated Train (diesel engine) that would take you to Darjeeling from NJP in a course of 7 hours accompanied with amazing scenic views & something new with every new turn.
