Dudhli Road connects Doiwala to Mothrowala. It is a quiet and low-traffic road outside Dehradun city. This road is a great option for cycling, especially for those who do not like the crowd and noise of the city. The photo above is from the month of January, when winter is at its peak. There is fog in the middle of the forest and the sun's rays are moving through this fog. Passing this road you will see, yellow fields full of mustard, green fields full of sugarcane and the national bird of India. In this season, if you also want to enjoy the changing seasons of Dehradun city with us, then come and join us.

CHOPTA/TUNGNATH
Tungnath means "Lord of the peaks". It is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva, visited by few pilgrims in summers. Located at a high altitude (3,680 m) in the midst of forests. This area is famous for its rich flora-fauna and serene beauty.
One can reach the nearest settlement Chopta on Ukhimath-Gopeshwar road. Chopta has small shops and rooms available for trekkers. we started trekking from Baniyakund. A day before we drove from my village (KOTI, Augustmuni) but the snowfall had only allowed our vehicle to make up to Baniyakund. There are couple of resorts and camping sites. Trekking day was clear and sunny. We preferred cutoff routes and passed through streams and alpine meadows, locally called as "Bugyals". We reached Chopta before afternoon. Looking down, one can see the untouched valley of evergreen forests.
Chopta offers a stunning view of Himalayan peaks - Kedar and Chaukhambha. It gets better and wider as you go up. The trail to Tungnath is five km uphill and is accessible by foot only. The paved path was snow covered and slippery in February. Intermittent railings are wound up vertically above Rhododendron populated slopes. As we moved towards sky, snow fields got deeper. Suddenly, we reached on top of a cliff and witnessed an amazing open view of the faraway Himalayan peaks.
Tungnath temple and Chandrashila peaks were just above us.

Some precautions for winter trekkers:
- Carry packaged food and sufficient water.
- Take a pair of snow-boots (or lease it from Duggalbitha, Baniyakund).
- Should wear sunscreen and shades.
- Consider starting earlier in the day.

Rimchi Bugyal,
The second stop of the 'KHWOM /KHOM Bhairavnath' trek. It is a small Bugyal area surrounded by dense forest on all sides, where the shepherds with their cows, buffaloes and goats live in temporary houses (Chaani) made of wood and grass. When they feel that the grass around them is over, then they walk from there to the high sheds. This process is called 'Sara' / 'Saru', in which the shepherds wake up early in the morning on the day of departure, after performing their worship and carrying all their belongings and leave. The shepherds start their journey as soon as the summer starts and return to their homes for Diwali. I have visited Khwom/Khom Bhairavnath thrice but the time spent with the shepherds this time is unforgettable forever. Although this trek is at a distance of 12 km from my village but we covered the distance of 4 km by bike. Our journey started at 11 am. Between the starting point of the journey and Rimchi Bugyal lies another small bugyal named 'Sargadwari' (рд╕рд░реНрдЧрджреНрд╡рд╛рд░реА). The village elders tell that the place got its name as Sargadwari because the walkway beyond it is very difficult and laborious. My mother tells me that they used to bring loads of wood from Swargadwari.
Our plan was that like everyone else, we too would complete the journey in one day but the rain prevented us from going beyond Rimchi Bugyal. We waited under a tin shade for about an hour for the rain to stop but it was not possible. Had we been 2 minutes ahead or behind Rimchi Bugyal, the rain would have washed us away badly. Finally, on the insistence of the shepherds, a halt was made at Rimchi Bugyal. We were lucky that the shepherd's Sara/Saru was there the next day.
