The History of City Palace is related to the kingdom of Mewar that has gone through several capital changes during the reign of its many rulers.

The capital was first established in Nagda in 568 AD by Guhil, the first Maharana of Mewar.

It was later moved to Chittor in the 8th century under the rule of Sisodias.

During 1537, the Mewar kingdom came under the rule of Maharana Udai Singh II.

Due to war with the Mughals there was a risk of losing the Chittor fort.

Hence, Maharana Udai Singh II chose a new capital for his kingdom near Lake Pichola that shielded the territory from its enemies, well surrounded by forests, lakes and the imposing Aravalli hills.

Mehrangarh Fort holds the pride of place in Jodhpur because of its splendid architecture and the diverse history associated with it.

Considered as one of the most formidable and magnificent forts of Rajasthan, Mehrangarh fort was built by Rao Jodha in the year 1459.

The fort is spread over an area of 5 km and is built on 125 m high hill in the outskirts of Jodhpur city.

There are seven gates, which can be used to enter the Mehrangarh fort.

These 7 gates are made by different rulers, and are built in honour of victory over Bikaner and Jaipur armies.

Legend has it that the colour blue is associated with Lord Shiva, who during the time of Samudra Manthan (also, known as Churning of the Ocean Milk) gulped down vicious poison called Halahala, in order to save the planet.

This venom turned his body blue, and since then, his followers consider it to be a sacred colour.

Owing to its sacredness, many of his followers who were settled in the region daubed their houses in blue hues , thus the town received the moniker, Blue City.

Jama Masjid is Delhi’s principal mosque, the place where the city’s Muslims traditionally gather for Friday communal prayer; Jama Masjid is Arabic for “Friday mosque.”

The mosque is near the Red Fort, yet another of Shah Jahān’s buildings. Jama Masjid and its courtyard stand on an outcropping more than 30 steps higher than the street, giving the mosque a commanding view of the surrounding area.

The longer name, Masjid-i Jahān Numā, translates to “world-reflecting mosque” or “world-displaying mosque.”
