Chandrashila is the summit above Tungnath temple in India. It literally means "Moon Rock". It is located at a height of about 3,690 metres (12,110 ft) above sea level. This peak provides views of the Himalayas, including Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch and Chaukhamba peaks. There are various legends associated with this place. According to one such legend, this is where Lord Rama meditated after defeating the demon-king Ravana. Another legend says that the moon-god Chandra spent time here in penance.

With a height of 260.5 m (855 ft) Tehri Dam is the tallest dam in India and 12th tallest dam in the world. It is a multi-purpose rock and earth-fill embankment dam on the Bhagirathi River in New Tehri, Tehri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand, India. It is the primary dam of the THDC India Ltd. and the Tehri hydroelectric complex. Phase 1 was completed in 2006. The Tehri Dam withholds a reservoir for irrigation, municipal water supply and the generation of 1,000 megawatts (1,300,000 hp) of hydroelectricity. The dam's 1,000 MW variable-speed pumped-storage scheme is currently under construction with expected commissioning of first two units in 2023.

Tehri Dam is a 260.5 m (855 ft) high rock and earth-fill embankment dam. Its length is 575 m (1,886 ft), crest width 20 m (66 ft), and base width 1,128 m (3,701 ft). The dam creates a reservoir of 3.54 cubic kilometres (2,870,000 acre⋅ft) with a surface area of 52 km2 (20 sq mi). The installed hydrocapacity is 1,000 MW along with an additional 1,000 MW of pumped storage hydroelectricity. The lower reservoir for the pumped-storage plant is created by the Koteshwar Dam downstream.

The Tehri Dam and the Tehri Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant are part of the Tehri Hydropower Complex which also includes the 400 MW Koteshwar Dam. Tehri pumped storage plant (4 X 250 MW) has variable speed features which can optimize the round trip efficiency under varying water levels in its reservoirs. Power is distributed to Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh . The complex will afford irrigation to an area of 270,000 hectares (670,000 acres), irrigation stabilization to an area of 600,000 hectares (1,500,000 acres), and a supply of 270 million imperial gallons (1.2×106 m3) of drinking water per day to the industrialized areas of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The total expenditure for this project was US$1 billion.

Adi Kailash (Kumaoni: आदि कैलाश), also known as Shiva Kailash, Chota Kailash, Baba Kailash or Jonglingkong Peak, is a mountain located in the Himalayan mountain range in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India.

The Adi Kailash and the Om Parvat are not one and the same.

The Adi Kailash or Chota Kailash is located in a different direction, near Sin La pass and near Brahma Parvat, the base camp of Adi Kailash is 17 km from the Kutti village at sacred Jolingkong Lake with Lord Shiva temple.

Om Parvat can be viewed in route to the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra from the last camp below Lipulekh Pass at Nabhidhang India-China border post protected by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police also has Public Works Department guest house on the Indian side. Khaliya top, perched at an altitude of 3500 m above sea level, is the highest point of Munsiyari, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The town of Munsiyari serves as the base for this trek. The trek to Khaliya top is 7-8 km in length and considered to be relatively easy. The topmost point provides clean and magnificent views of the valley and some snow covered Himalayan peaks including Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Hardeol, Nanda Kot, and Nanda Devi.

As the trek to Khalia top initiates, the dense Oak forests welcome you with some Rhododendron(locally known as Buraans) trees. Rhododendron is a red or pink flower that blossoms in the months of March and April. As the trek goes on, the mesmerizing views of the Himalayan peaks and valleys keep on amaze you. If you get lucky, you might spot some mountain antelopes and pheasants on the way to Khalia top.

After a while, the Rajrambha Peak and Panchachuli peaks give you warm welcome. This point of the trek has a lush green sheet of thick grass. This is where one may camp and stay for the night. About a kilometer ahead here begins the meadow(Bugyal) of Khaliya covered with a thick coat of grass. After trekking one hour towards the peak of Khaliya top, there are camping grounds. This point provides neat and clean views of Nanda Devi peak, Sunderdhunga, and Milam Valley.

Malari in the Dhauli Ganga valley of the Nanda Devi Biosphere reserve is a small village near the Tibet border. This area has been declared as a world heritage site. Located 61 km from Joshimath, the nearest Tehsil, in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand.

The villages in this valley include Reni, from where the Chipko movement of Garhwal was started; Gaura Devi, from where the famous chipko activist hailed, as well as Lata, Peng, Tolma, Surai, Phagti, Jamgavar, Kaga and Garpag. About 18 km from Malari, Niti is the last village in India, bordering Tibet. In times of yore, Niti Pass connected India and Tibet on the trade route. at that time, people use to trade goats, sheep, grains and other regular stuffs in exchange of Rock Salt and other Tibetan stuffs. Now, special permission has to be taken from the administration to go beyond Malari. The village has its own beauty in terms of nature and the residence pattern of people residing in the village. Malari is the Summer migration place for the villagers. The people of the village the 6 month migration pattern. The Chota Char Dham (literally translated as 'the small four abodes/seats', meaning 'the small circuit of four abodes/seats'), is an important Hindu pilgrimage circuit in Uttarakhand, in the Indian Himalayas. Located in the Garhwal region of the state of Uttarakhand, the circuit consists of four sites—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Badrinath is also one of the four destinations (with each destination being in different corners of the country) of the longer Char Dham from which the Chota Char Dham likely draws its name.

Akshaya Tritiya (April or May in the Gregorian calendar) marks the beginning of the Chota Char Dham Yatra and closes 2 days after Diwali, on the day of Bhai-Bij (or Bhai Dooj) In May and June, tourists flock in large numbers, due to heavy rainfall greater chances of roadblocks/landslides in late July and August (Monsoon season).

The Annual Chota Char Dham Yatra resumed in May 2014, after remaining suspended since the outbreak of 2013 Uttarakhand floods. The footfall has now improved due to proactive measures taken by the government of Uttarakhand. In 2022, in just 2 months (10 June – 10 August), 2.8 million pilgrims have visited these Dhams.

A record 4.1 million pilgrims visited Chota Char dham in 2022. Over 1.4 million pilgrims have already visited Kedarnath, over 600,000 have visited Gangotri, and over 500,000 have visited Yamunotri. Around 1.5 million pilgrims have already visited Badrinath the same year.
