A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Humayun’s Tomb, built in 1570, was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent. Built with the patronage of Humayun’s son, the great Emperor Akbar.
Designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, a Persian architect as a dynastic mausoleum, the structure has 124 small vaulted chambers within its walls. The huge tomb with a height of 154 feet and width of 299 feet is mainly built in red sandstone while white marble has been used for the double layered dome.
