Q) Is Permit Required to Visit Sikkim?
ANS: If you are Foreign Nationals than yes you must require ILP (Inner line Permit) to enter Sikkim state issued from all Indian Missions, Sikkim Tourism offices at New Delhi, Kolkatta, Siliguri, and Rangpo on the strength of Indian Visa and Passport.
But if you are Indian Citizen than no ILP is required to visit Sikkim but on the other hand permit is required to visit PA (Protected Area) & RA (Restricted Area) of Sikkim, which is issued by Tourism and Police permit Cell Located at Gangtok.

Q) Which are the RA and PA at Sikkim?
ANS: Area of Dzongu, Cungthang, Lachen, Lachung at (North) and Tsomgo, Zuluk, Nathang, Padamchen in the (East) falls under it.

Q) When can we apply for the said permit?
ANS: These permits are issued by the authority on the same day of the visit. But during very peak season looking at the rush permits are also issued in the evening day before.

Q) What time is the permit issued?
ANS: Permit is issued every day throughout the year from 6am till 10am looking at the situation of the roads and weathers.

Q) Can Visitors apply for Permit?
ANS: No.. Though the permit is issued in the name of the visitors but they cannot apply directly, they can approach any registered travel Agency of Sikkim to do so.

Q) Documents required for availing Permit?
ANS: Driving License, Voter Id, Passport and 2nosof passport size photographs for Indians and ILP, Passport and Visa and 3nos of passport size photographs for Foreign Nationals.

Q) Why is AADHAR card not accepted for permit.
ANS: Once visitors from Bangladesh also submitted AADHAR copy, so as of the security reasons AADHAR is not accepted.

Q) Is there any Fees for Permit?
ANS: No fees is charged for permit.

Q) Is permit issued for own private vehicle?
Ans: No. Permits for Sikkim registered taxi vehicles is only issued for tourist purpose. One cannot get permit even if they hire or manage Private vehicle of Sikkim itself from their known ones or any relatives. Permits are strictly issued for Sikkim Registered Taxis only.
