Assam Divas, also known as Assam Day or Asom Divas, marks the formation of the state of Assam in India. It is celebrated on December 2.
This day is significant in history because it marks the formation of the state of Assam in 1963. Prior to this event, Assam was a part of a larger state that included Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Meghalaya. Nagaland and Meghalaya were separated from Assam on December 2, 1963, following the implementation of the States Reorganization Act of 1956, which resulted in the formation of modern-day Assam.
