Gulmarg the winter wonderland of India, it is located at a distance of 56 km (30 mi) from Srinagar. Gulmarg is a town, hill station, situated in the Pir Panjal Range in the Western Himalayas and lies within the boundaries of Gulmarg Wildlife Sanctuary at an altitude of 2,650 m (8,694 ft) & is the "heartland of winter sports in India". Winter sports like skiing, tobogganing, snowboarding, ice skating, ice hockey and heli-skiing happens on the slopes of majestic Apharwat peak. The slope of this 4390-meter peak receives heavy snowfall in winter and is the longest ski slope in Asia. The bunny slopes (wide, easy slopes) here are open throughout the day as well as the night and are great for practicing skiing & snowboarding skills for beginners.
