All Nippon Airways places order for at least 77 aircraft to meet growing demand

To enhance its long-haul operations, ANA has ordered 18 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, powered by General Electric’s GEnx engines. The airline group has identified its international network as a key driver of future growth, particularly on routes between Asia and North America. This expansion is further supported by the ongoing development of Tokyo-Narita International Airport (NRT). ANA projects a 50% increase in its capacity on these routes by the 2030 fiscal year, with available seat kilometers (ASK) expected to rise by approximately 1.5 times compared to FY2023.

Emirates is losing confidence in Boeing’s ability to deliver the 777X on schedule, with the airline now expecting delays until at least 2027, possibly 2028.

Originally planned for 2020, the aircraft has faced repeated setbacks due to certification issues, manufacturing delays, and FAA scrutiny.

Emirates President Sir Tim Clark has openly expressed frustration, citing the urgent need for new aircraft.

With no 777X deliveries in sight, Emirates has been forced to invest $4 billion to upgrade its existing A380 and 777 fleets. Meanwhile, Lufthansa is set to become the first airline to receive the 777-9 in 2026. Boeing has 481 orders for the aircraft, with Emirates remaining its largest customer, holding 205 of those orders.
