Vellagavi is the oldest village here, 500yrs old, infact the first explorers came to this village before making the hills slightly higher up as what we know as Kodaikanal today!
it was a slightly difficult and steep trek up and down the village and its the only way to get there, which is why this place has retained its lovely charm.
A really pretty village with lovely friendly residents who seem very happy and making their living growing coffee, cardamom and fruits and collecting honey.
We could do a night stop here in a rural home and head down further to the foothills!
A lovely trek and i will be hosting this trek soonly!
Will soon be making a
Kodai adventure Club
with different trekking itenaries for different levels of difficulty ...excited :)

You can't take your eyes off this peak when in Kodaikanal, i remember the first time here in kodai i laid my eyes on it and i have been craving to climb it. Finally did and its just one of the best treks so far.
Pass through fruit laden avocado, plum and pear orchards and you have an option to take a trekking path all the way up, through the forest.
It being one of the highest hills in the Palanis, there is breathtaking views pretty much all through the way as you trek up the ridges of one hill to the other.
Perumal malai used to be an active volcano a 1000 years ago and so
it is a very special hill as it has formed the Palani range around it.
Once on top its the most beautiful 360 views of the the entire hill range, Kodaikanal town,Vaigai dam and even faraway ghats of Kerala and the plains.
Its a long walk and moderately difficult with some level of fitness required, but i have been humbled by its majestic grace.
It has a water stream that has its origins from right on top of the peak, to make overnight camping possible!
