The Blue Grotto (Italian: Grotta Azzurra) is a sea cave on the coast of the island of Capri, southern Italy. Sunlight, passing through an underwater cavity and shining through the seawater, creates a blue reflection that illuminates the cavern. I had the opportunity to visit Capri for a day trip from Sorrento in April,2019. A round trip ferry(to and fro from Sorrento) costs around 40 euros. From the Capri pier, I would recommend a short boat ride to the Blue Grotto which costs 16 euros(the bus is a cheaper option though) provided the weather is kind enough. There are smaller boats for getting inside the cave which costs you another 14 euros and the driver would ask for some tips. So from your boat,which took you to the entrance of the cave , you have to get onto another boat which is usually quite small(for 2-3 people). There’s a long queue of visitors during the peak tourist season(the boat ride from the pier and the cave ride can take upto 2 hours). The boat ride inside the Grotto(cave) lasts for only about a couple of minutes and then you can either hop on to the boat for the Capri pier or climb up the stairs for the Bus stop(which is what I did) to head towards Anacapri. The view from above the Blue Grotto is amazing.
