Janakpur is about 10 hours drive from Kathmandu. This historical town is famous for its temples and ponds.
It is believed that Janakpur is the birthplace of Goddess Sita. This holy city was founded in the 18th century and is famous for the Janaki temple. It holds a significant place in Hindu mythology. The city is well known for its temples, 90 ponds, rich cultural history, arts, language and literature.
Places to visit in Janakpur :
JANAKI MANDIR
The magnificent Janaki temple, which is inspired by the Mughal and Koiri style of architecture, was built by Vrish Bhanu, the queen of Tikamgarh in India, in 1910. It is believed that King Janak ruled this holy city during the Ramayan era.
BIBAHA MANDAP:
Located on the side of the holy Janaki mandir is Bibaha Mandap ( Wedding place). As per the legends, Lord Ram and Maa Sita had their wedding ceremony, now there is a beautiful temple there.
Dhanushdham: Lord Ram had broken a bow at Sita Syamvar and it is believed that the bow was shattered into parts. It fell in a different part of the world. One of its parts had fallen here and later a temple was built.
The two most popular ponds are Ganga Sagar & Dhanush Sagar, pilgrimage is incomplete without visiting these places.

Vivah Panchami, Ram Navami, Dhasain, Diwali, Chhath are among the most celebrated festivals in Janakpur, Nepal.
