The mom orang utan trying to hide her baby from looking at us. Usually the adults hide their face or look in a different direction. Whereas the babies are quite curious about human.

The photo was taken in a fine morning drive in Deramakot when we saw 6 different wild orang utans in approximately in an hour, quite a satisfying record.

Deramakot Forest Reserve, undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Sabah to see orang utan, pygmy elephant, wild cats and other wildlife. Considered heaven of Borneo mammals.

It is accessible by 4WD transport from Telupid, a small town connected to Sandakan, Tawau, KK etc.

There is only one accommodation facility with supply of meal in Deramakot. One must arrange 4WD safari vehicle and experienced guide prior to the visit. Contact us for your trip.

Did you know about the smallest bear species in the world? Meet the charismatic Sun Bears from Borneo. Unlike its larger cousins such as the polar bears or the grizzly bears which can be seen fairly commonly in the nature documentaries, very few people actually knows about the sun bear’s existence.

Their claws fit for climbing tall trees and tongues stretching almost 17 inches used for reaching into tree holes for honey and termites. These small solitary creatures are highly territorial.

They are rarely/occasionally encountered during the night drives/walks in Deramakot, Tabin or Danum Valley in Borneo. And we had few sightings on the boardwalks of Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort.

The is doing a tremendous job to educate people about the sun bear and for their conservation.
