THE DREAM OF A PURE DZONG, PUNAKHA DZONG, BHUTAN

Once, white pigeons scattered all over the sky and a big blue clear sky was above the head, peach trees were full of soothing pretty flowers, and the happy smile was all where in a happy land, history calls it “The Great Spiritual Land, Bhutan” and a blissful palace was made by those happy citizens, called “Punakha Dzong (the palace of great happiness or bliss)”. As a child, who holds his father’s hand from one side and mother’s hand from another side, like an eternal holy child of Bhutan, “Punakha Dzong” is situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu (father) and Mo Chhu (mother) rivers in the “Punakha–Wangdue” valley. According to the history, the sage “Guru Rinpoche” prophesized that a person named “Namgyal” will arrive at a hill that looks like an elephant”. “Zhamdrup Namgyal” found the peak of the hill, which appeared in the shape of trunk of an elephant as prophesized, and built the dzong in 1637-38.Another historical tale explains how “Zowe Palep”, the architect, had a vision in a dream after the “Zhamdrup Namgya” l ordered him to sleep under a small structure which contained a statue of the Buddha, known as “Dzong Chug (small dzong”). In his dream, prompted by the psychic powers of the “Zhamdrup”, he had a clear vision of a palace for “Guru Rinpoche”. The vision was imprinted on the architect’s mind, enabling him to conceive the plan for the Dzong without putting the vision on paper and to build it. On the basis of the dream vision of the architect, the building of the Dzong was started in 1637 and completed in 1638, at the place where the “Dzong Chug”, had existed.

“Dzong” is supposed to be, a distinctive type of fortress architecture, found in the present and former “Buddhist” kingdoms of the “Himalayas: Bhutan and Tibet”. The architecture is massive in style with towering exterior walls surrounding a complex of courtyards, temples, administrative offices, and monks’ accommodation.

When “Punakha” was the capital, “Punakha Dzong” was the administrative centre and the seat of the “Government of Bhutan” until 1955. It is the second oldest and most majestic dzong in Bhutan as well as one of the purest palace in the pure land of Bhutanese people. For this reason, the wedding of the “King of Bhutan”, “Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck”, and his fiance, “Jetsun Pema”, was held at the “Punakha Dzong” on October 13, 2011. “Punakha” is so called the winter capital of “Bhutan”, so it’s supposed to be a very healthy place to stay in deep winter. Hence, the head of the clergy of “Bhutan” with his entourage of monks spend the winter in this dzong. There is a festival named “Demoche”, a five days festival, also known as “Punakha festival”, held in February/March in this dzong. Citizens from all around the “Bhutan” try to attend this festival. Lot’s of important displays are shown here, like a re-enactment of the “Tibetan invasion of Bhutan” in 1639 where the Tibetans were defeated.Another ritual observed every year at this dzong is called the “Lhenkey Dungchhur”, and is a worship for departed souls.

As a long-time backpacker traveler in “Bhutan”, I suggest you guys just close your eyes, and attend your body in front of this Dzong in some sunny day, touch the river’s cold pure water and have a look around you, look at the green fields, green trees, green mountains, I promise you, one sentence will come from a true traveler heart “ My life is blessed because I am here”. Yes, my friends, this Dzong is such a pure place, where mind escapes, heart flows, eyes gaze. Try it and believe it from your true traveler's heart.

The Largest Religious Monument Of The World Angkor-Wat,Cambodia .

Can you believe, the 7th wonder of the world was constructed in a single night by a divine architect? Yes according to the 13th century Chinese traveler “Daguan Zhou”, it is true. “Angkor-Wat”, “The City Of Temples”, the largest religious monument of the world, is a historical mystery being the 7th wonder of the world. Some said it’s a “Hindu” temple, some claimed it as a “Buddhist” temple. “Angkor-Wat”, the pride of “Cambodia”, the glorious gift from the “Khmer Empire”, the symbol of Cambodia’s national flag, gives a spiritual calling to all the world travelers, to all the history lovers, to all the human beings who love the perfect creation of beauty.

According the veins of history, it’s been said that the temple was built by the “Khmer King Suryavarman II” in the early 12th century in “Yasodharapura”, the capital of the “Khmer Empire”, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. This temple was dedicated to “Hindu Lord Vishnu”. Stretching over some 400 square kilometres, the temple is at the top of the high classical style of “Khmerarchitecture” which got major influence from “Kalinga” architectural style. Later, in the late 13th century, “Angkor-Wat” gradually moved from “Hindu” to “Theravada Buddhist” use, which continues to the present day. The temples can broadly be categorized into four groups: Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, Little Circuit, Big Circuit, Roluos group, Outlying temples. “Angkor Archaeological Park” was declared a “UNESCO World Heritage site” in 1992. At the same time, it was also placed on the “List of World Heritage in Danger” due to looting, a declining water table, and unsustainable tourism.

One of the first Western visitors to the temple was “António da Madalena”, a “Portuguese” monk who visited in 1586 and said that it “is of such extraordinary construction that it is not possible to describe it with a pen, particularly since it is like no other building in the world. It has towers and decoration and all the refinements which the human genius can conceive of.” In the mid-19th century the temple was visited by the French naturalist and explorer, “Henri Mouhot”, who popularised the site in the West through the publication of travel notes, in which he wrote, “One of these temples, a rival to that of Solomon, and erected by some ancient Michelangelo, might take an honorable place beside our most beautiful buildings. It is grander than anything left to us by Greece or Rome, and presents a sad contrast to the state of barbarism in which the nation is now plunged.”Accordingto“MauriceGlaize”, a mid-20th-century conservator of Angkor, the temple “attains a classic perfection by the restrained monumentality of its finely balanced elements and the precise arrangement of its proportions. It is a work of power, unity and style.”

Well, I should tell my feelings too regarding my first visit to this remarkable wonder of world. Before I headed to this Temple City, I did quite a long research about this Historical wonder, to understand and cherish the ancient curves and ruins, when I would be there. I attended few travel-lectures about “Angkor-Wat” with the previous visitors from all around the world, while I was in “Thailand”. When, I was there it was a late December, the weather was pretty clear and cool. I didn’t have to feel to sweaty nature of Cambodia’s weather. Me and my friend hired a Tuk-Tuk from our guesthouse to visit the temple. We reached there at 11 am, which is so called a perfect time to visit this temple. I was so excited to see the 7th wonder of world, and when it came in front of me it was really a wonder that I couldn’t believe. It was like a fairy dream to me to see the perfection of architecture of ancient century. Where the inner walls of the temple show the fabulous portraits of Hindu epics, “The Ramayana” and “The Mahabharata”, there the outer architecture of temple explains the purity and perfection of dedication towards the religion and art, which is quite comparable with the architecture of ancient “Greece and Rome”. It was such a wonder of my mind, which still stands as a wonder, I can’t believe. Making a huge architecture like “Angkor-Wat”, was not only an impossible fact in that ancient time, but also a matter of beyond imagination. It explains the “Golden Era of Hinduism”. Really, it might be built by divine power, I must say to myself. I met few Buddhist child monks in the temple area, by whom I got more influences to feel the veins of this temple through my traveller blood.
Well, my travel friends, whatever it is, we should take it as a gift from “God” or “The Eternal Power” and value the feelings of this creation. Every single year millions of tourist visits this wonder. I hope you all will visit it someday. It is 20 minutes away from central “Siem Reap”. You can get tourist buses, Tuk-Tuk, motorbike taxi from anywhere of “Siem Reap” to visit this temple. Hiring a bi-cycle, is a classic way to visit the temple area.Well, there are some superstar ways to visit “Angkor-Wat”. One of them is the Helicopter riding. You can hire 8 mins Helicopter ride with approx 90$ for seeing Bangkeng Mountain, Angkor Wat. Sras Srang, Pre Rup, Eastern Mebon & Ta Som. Else, you can ride 6-10 mins in the fantastic “Hot-air Balloon” in sun-rise time and visit “Angkor-Wat”. The most cheap and affordable travel packages for “Siem Reap” and “Angkor-Wat” are sold from Khaosan Road, Bangkok (Thailand). After all this long discussion I want to say you one thing, “Visit Angkor-Wat, atleast once in a lifetime and feel the power of religion”.

A NATURE MADE MONASTERY, WHERE THE REAL BUDDHA SLEEPS, SANDAKFU
Are you a Buddhist? Do you follow the great Buddha? Do you visit often in mountains to feel the spiritual calmness of monasteries? Well, today all for my travel friends, I am going to reveal anunbelievable fact about Buddha. Faraway there is a road, very old road, so many amazing tress are around the road, somewhere on the way there are small villages with few houses, some where there are some lonely temples Lord Buddha, up there the sky is blue sometime, sometime surrounding becomes very foggy and cold, chilled air is constant and after all those circumstances legs become steady on a peak, from where eyes stare at the unexplainable wonderful view, most wonderful spiritual view of the mountain, the view of “Sleeping Buddha- The spiritual view of mount Kanchendzonga (3rd highest peak in the world)”. It really feels like the lonely Buddha sleeps over those mountains, putting pure snow over his body. It feels like he is sleeping there for ages, ignoring the world’s attention in an eternal peace. If you are a true mountain lover, trust me you will surely want to run to the view and sleep beside the imagining Buddha, as it is a too beautiful vista to ignore. And the peak that will give you this awesome view, his name is “The King Of Peaks, Sandakfu”.

“Sandakfu (3636 m; 12,400 ft)” is the highest peak in the state of “West Bengal, India”. It is situated at the edge of the “Singalila National Park” in “Darjeeling” district on the “West Bengal-Sikkim” border, and is the highest point of the “SingalilaRidg”e. Sandakphu has a small village on the peak with few hostels. Four of the five highest peaks in the world, “Everest, Kanchendzonga, Lhotse and Makalucan” be seen from its summit. “Sandakfu” can be reached in two different ways, either by car or by trekking. The trekking starts from “Maneybhanjang” via “Chitirey, Meghma, Tonglu, Tumling, Gairibas, KalaPokhri, Bekhey to Sandakphu”. From “Maneybhanjang” one can hire 1950’s made Land Rovers which climbs up to “Sandakphu” and “Phalut”. The journey on Land Rover is not quite smooth on the rough mountain roads.

“Maneybhanjang” is almost one and half hour by road from “Darjeeling”. You can come “Maneybhanjang” directly from “New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri”. It’s a famous place because this is the usual starting point of “Sandakfu Trekking”. This trekking route is very popular among all the trek lovers around the world. Trekkers from all around the world comes to trek in this route to meet the exotic flora and fauna of Eastern Himalaya and to view the amazing view of “Sleeping Buddha” along with other peaks. While trekking you can observe many uncommon species of birds, which isa quite extra ordinary gift for a nature lover. The best time for this trekking route is “March- May” and “September- November”, as the temperature is not so low in that time. You can trek “Sandakfu” in different schedules. Different tour agents sell different schedules “Sandafu-Phalut Trekking Packages”. You can get them online, or you can also book directly it from “Darjeeling” or “Siliguri”. You might get the packages in cheap price from local agents. It’s always required to take a Govt registered local guide for this trekking, as it is a guideline and rule of local authority.
