Every morning, before the sun is up; the light sensitive Neon street lamps of Calcutta go off just when there is enough light. r. Trudging through the sleepy 300 year locality of Calcutta in full throttle (Tram/B**g Speed), the next few hours are spent visiting some local hidden spots around the oldest part of the city. Before the bustling giant city wakes up we’d have used all the iconic transport modes of Calcutta, enjoyed sights that are just ignored in plain sight, had breakfast by a hidden hole in the wall with an extraordinary view, gossiped about Bengalis and Calcutta in general, learnt the meaning to “Adda” and lot more about being B**g. The “unguided tour” as we call it is wrapped up savoring Chai (tea) in a bhaad (earthen cups), the best sweets of Calcutta and finding our way through the winding streets to the place where we began (the tour we mean).

Kolkata Police retrieves US Tourist's pickpocketed phone within 5 hours.
Our guests, Martin Gorfinkel and Susan Miller from New York, USA, had entrusted their Kolkata experience to Calcutta Capsule, and little did we anticipate the unexpected turn their visit would take. In the heart of a bustling market, their iphone was pickpocketed. As their hosts, it became our moral duty to do our best to help them.
We instantly attempted to contact the Tourism Department, Government of West Bengal for assistance. Unfortunately, they ignored our plea claiming it was a Saturday.
We also connected with the 5 star hotel they were staying at, in case they knew somebody who could help but they were reluctant to provide any assistance.
Desperate to resolve this situation, we explored every local connection available. I reached out to the Bengal Business Council and many members came forward with guidance.
Finally we headed directly to the Kolkata Police Headquarters. Calcutta Capsule was determined to ensure that their experience of Calcutta wouldn't be marred by a loss.
At the Police Headquarters, we witnessed a remarkable story of how Kolkata Police makes the city safe. The officers at the Watch Section of the Detective Department displayed dedication that was nothing short of remarkable.
Realizing that the dignity of India, not just Calcutta, was on the line, they swiftly tracked the phone's location provided to them by Marty from his paired Apple laptop. This led us to an extremely busy part of the city, among warehouses bustling with the arrival of grains and spices. The area was teeming with people, and it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Locked warehouses and crowded streets became the setting for hours of relentless searching. The officers were unfazed, fully aware of the gravity of the situation.
After around 3 hours of searching, their unwavering pursuit paid off when they recovered the stolen phone, and brought a happy ending to an extraordinary story. The resolve and determination of these officers demonstrated the very best of Kolkata's spirit and reinforced our belief in the warmth and kindness of the people.
This experience highlighted how Kolkata Police makes the city safe, and how Kolkata treats tourists with the utmost care and consideration. Our heartfelt gratitude to Kolkata Police for their heroic efforts and making a statement about Kolkata's hospitality, safety and that the happiness of visitors are held in high regard.
It has been our long standing effort to connect with the West Bengal Tourism Department to establish a dedicated 24x7 helpline or support unit for tourists in need of any help, ensuring that guests to the city always have a reliable source of assistance.

Remembering the legend.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Eden Gardens Kolkata 24th September 1977 , Mohun Bagan was playing Cosmos Club.
In those days getting a ticket for a major football match was an achievement in Kolkata. We had managed 3 tickets and my father, elder brother and I went to watch the historical match as Pele along with Carlos Alberto, heroes of the1970 world cup winning squad were in the team. To our delight, our ticket was just beside the stairway from which the players were to come out, and climb down to the ground.
The players started coming out to the tremendous cheers of the crowd.
As Pele was coming down the stairs, the fans extended their hands to touch the legend, and he was touching their hands on his way down. As he came close, the next hand he was looking at, was mine but he missed his step and I missed touching his hand .
The match was very exciting and Pele took a wonderful free kick which was brilliantly saved by the Mohun Bagan goal keeper Shivaji Bannerjee. The score was 2-1 in favour of Mohun Bagan at half time but ended in a 2-2 draw .

The Chatrapati Shivaji maharaj terminus in South Mumbai is arguably the city's most iconic structure.
Built in 1887 by the British in Italian Gothic style the terminus was known as the Victoria terminus till 1996.
It stands tall and houses the terminus of the Central local train line of Mumbai which is the lifeline of the city.
