Situated in the city of Leh, the Hemis Gompa (monastery) celebrates the Hemis Tsechu Festival this year, starting on the 28th to the 29th of June, 2024. This two-day grand cultural festival is celebrated on the birthday of Guru Padmasambhava, also referred to as Guru Rinpoche. Celebrated on the 10th day of the Lunar Tibetan calendar, it is an annual event dedicated to the revered spiritual saviour.

Hornbill Festival, North East India (1st to 10th December 2024)

India is a land of colorful, loud and exciting festivals. Tribes have been a very important part of our history, culture and population. Tribal festivals are some glorious festivities of our nation. Of the numerous tribal festivals in India, one which has made its mark on an international scale is the Nagaland’s’ Hornbill Festival. Nagaland comprises of 16 unique tribes. Hornbill Festival was started as an effort by Nagaland State Tourism and Art & Culture Departmentsto being together the diverse tribes. The effort has now resulted in a global scenario where traditional music &dance, arts and activities are thriving. Also a Rock Music Festival is organized which brings crowds from all over the world.

Celebrations
Hornbill Festival is a “Festival of Festivals”. All tribes come together and display their cultures, dances, music and create an extravaganza of festivities. The festival is named after the forest dwelling Indian hornbill. The beautiful bird is mentioned in the folklore of almost all tribes of the state.As the common theme, the festival is named so. This Festival provides the amazing opportunity to experience Nagaland’sdiversity of food, handicrafts, traditional songs, dances and customs.

The Hornbill Festival Celebrations comprise of the Traditional Naga Morungs Exhibition and sale of Arts and Crafts, Traditional songs and dances, Local Games, Traditional Archery, Naga wrestling, Flower shows and sales, Beauty Contest, Fashion shows, Herbal Medicine Stalls, Food Stalls, display of paintings, sculptures and wood carvings and a Musical concert. Contemporary artists get a platform to display their creations.

The Hornbill National Rock Concert after sundown brings in the global festive flavor. Rock Bands from all across the country as well as international boundaries come to compete in the concert. Crowds can be seen from all over the globe.

Hindus are known for their passion to celebrate festivals in a grand way. Kumbh Mela Prayagraj 13th Jan 2025 to 26th Jan 2025 is one such festival admired by the Hindus. The event takes place in major & ancient cities of India named Prayag Raj (earlier Allahabad), Haridwar, Nasik & Ujjain. It usually takes 12 years to get a repeat on the same location except in Prayag Raj and Haridwar. In Prayag Raj and Haridwar, there is an Ardh Kumbh (smaller version of Maha Kumbh) every 6 Years also. The history of Kumbh Mela in India way back to when the earth used to be the staying place for the gods. In a battle between the gods and demons to win the nectar of immortality, some of the much sought after liquid fell on the rivers at Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nasik, and Ujjain.
The Kumbh Mela Prayagraj is the largest human congregations on the Earth & added to the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage on 8th December 2018. It is believed that according to the position of astrological stars the water of those holy rivers turns into nectar. In this festival, the Hindus wash themselves off in the holy rivers to give away all their sins. In 2019, Prayagraj Kumbh Mela Packages attracted a crowd of 24 Million including 1 Million foreign tourists as per the Government data. The holy dip at Kumbh Mela is perceived one more step closer to salvation. More interestingly, the participants of this Kumbh Mela have not only been restricted to India but people across the globe in this holy gathering.
