It's extremely surprising how people from so-called uneducated society welcome you with open arms in their small houses. These are Locals of Shergaon Village, Nathu singh and his family, the house where we stay every time we go climbing.
They somehow understand our love towards the sport and support us in a very positive way.
Another reason to fall in love with this place...

Glimpse from the recent Trek to Miyar Valley also known as The Indian Yosemite. It was our first trek in the region, we met some of the well known ultra hikers Peter & Creedaz.

Miyar, is a very remote and fairly inaccessible valley at the extreme western corner of the large district of Lahaul and Spiti, in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. This glacier stretches a further 24 km up to the high Kang La Jot (5468m) and beyond it to the Zanskar valley in Ladakh. It’s an infrequent area similar to Zanskar and local people in the area follow Buddhist customs and are mainly shepherds and farmers. Miyar Valley trek is of moderate difficulty. The Miyar valley is comparatively easy to reach by road and there are plenty of interesting things to explore which are still hidden to the outside world. But it gets difficult when you have to walk on boulders and moraine along river banks to cross glacial streams. The Miyar Valley has had a legendary status in climbers' imaginations for decades. On all the sides of the river, there are snow-covered peaks abound, many of them remain unclimbed. Some of the most beautiful and most jagged ones are in Chhudong valley. You can only see these after a stiff hike up the side valley above Phalpu to the base of dominant Castle Peak and then perhaps up the incredible Chhudong/Tawa Glacier to Neverseen Tower at nearly 6,000m. For many of the peaks in the Miyar valley, there are no records of prior ascents. We also oftentimes find no evidence of other humans visiting the summits of peaks before. There are more than 100+ peaks located in the whole region, most of them are virgin & waiting for their first ascent. Out of these around, 40+ peaks have been documented as summited or repeated via multiple routes in past years.

Miyar valley has huge importance in Indian history as it's linked directly with The Mahabharata, an ancient Indian epic. There is some temple, which has been hand-carved by Pandavas. And a Village which said to be home of Lord Shiva during his teenage. A small step towards Giving Back to the Community

During our expeditions, we come across places that seem just perfect for ‘big’ projects. For us, projects are a way to improve ourselves and our abilities and understanding the sport a little more than the last time. These projects are strictly limited to develop a chosen spot for recreational and adventure sports activities, and by no means, we want to add these places into the category of chaotic destinations. It’s also a way to keep our team motivated and psyched.

Pahadi Bakra Exclusives : designed for the Real adventurer

We only take the off-beaten paths, some of which are not even featured on Google Maps yet. All our destinations are completely away from the touristy circuit, our itineraries don’t revolve around tourist destinations and stay in regular accommodations. Still, if we do have to pass through a touristy place, we ensure that the main attractions are not ignored. All our expeditions are in themselves unique experiences, with a combination of home-stays, personal attention and our signature off the grid locations that lack tourist infrastructure. Part of a trip experience is to get a feel of the local culture, tradition and cuisine, alongside we quench our adventure thirst.

These programs present some of the challenges which may not occur in any of our guided tours. As we would be visiting pre or post season to avoid tourist load, we have to be prepared to face the harsh climate and work hard. Exclusive trips are somewhat done in a self-sufficient manner e.g. while being on trek we cook our own meals, and we will probably carry most of the logistics on our back which can be anywhere around 15 to 20 kgs.

Meet Our Guide

Toti Vales (IFMGA/UIAGM Guide)

In his long career as a mountaineer, Toti has received awards for his high-level activities, both from the FEDME and the FEEC and some of his most outstanding achievements are the opening of the routes: Costa Brava (7b / A4) in Monte Harrison Smith from Canada (1990); Mora Mora (700 m, 8b + / c) with Francisco Blanco in Madagascar (1999); Life is beautiful (1,000 m, 8a +) with Edu Marín on the north face of the Kjerag in Norway (2005); and Reflexes nocturns (1,480 m, 7a) in the Gran Catedral del Baltoro (2006).
Toti Vales, a High Mountain Guide IFMGA/UIAGM accreditation, is a passionate climber and a former coach of the Spanish National Climbing team. Based in the Catalan Pyrenees and Montserrat. He is a specialist in climbing and trekking, especially in the Andes and Himalayas. Guide by vocation, restless and motivated by nature, he has travelled much of the planet in search of sensations full of emotion and originality. Toti has taken our clients to the highest peaks of the Pyrenees, Alps, Himalayas, African Atlas and Andes. In addition to providing his services to Pahadi Bakra Adventures, Toti currently directs the Mountaineering Technification Center of Catalonia.

Meet the Guide

Swapnil Rachelwar (Neel)

He has been guiding and running courses & expeditions as a Leader & assistant instructor (Under UIAGM Guide) in Pyrenees, Spain; Indian & Nepal Himalayas, Sahyadris, India.

He is a certified WFR (WMI, NOLS, India), Leave No Trace Trainer (LNT, NOLS, India), Backpacking Guide (NOLS, India) and Mountaineering Instructor (IMF, India) also have 800 hours of training under the UIAGM guide (Jordi Vales, X President of Catalan UIAGM association). He has led many of our Climbing & Trekking in Spain, Nepal & India. He has been climbing for over 8 years and has guided trips for 6 years. He is currently working towards IFMGA Certification. When not working he can be found travelling to different parts of India and working on PB’s Projects with his Wife and Friends.
He works in cooperation with other senior guides where they provide climbing training to Passionate climbers & even to Professional Athletes. With a strong intention to expose India’s diverse and potential regions spread all over the country and this has been a guiding force for him. Every year, he eagerly awaits the journey to his favourite mountains in the valley of Miyar & Zanskar.
