Our Story

Since 2003. Home away from Home. Wongden Cardamom Homestay is a very simple homestay located around 1.5 km away and uphill of Mangan Bazar. This homestay started from a scratch with very humble ,simple and basic rooms. The host family are the Wongden Family which is a huge family, none of us from the family has acquired any kind of professional training and degrees from the hospitality section this homestay was founded with pure interest of promoting our town Mangan and the villages in and around. We do not have any professional and trained chefs we serve the guest what is cooked in our household kitchen so they get to experience home food and we also serve the guest fruits and vegetables that are grown in the homestay itself. We do-not have any paid employee we family take care of the service. We don’t want the visitors/tourist to just treat our town as a transit point but we want the guests to experience Mangan and its villages and its people. We want people belonging to different cultures and countries to stay with us so we get to know their culture and they get to know our culture. We the Wongden family try to make our guest as homely as possible and give them an experience that are unforgettable.

We love interacting with the guest and the kitchen is open to the guest if they want us to taste the food belonging to their culture or country. The Guest can visit the Wongden Cardamom plantation and help during the harvest time as well and know more about this magical plant. As Sikkim supplies (90% of Large Cardamom to the world) and Mangan is also called the Large Cardamom Capital of the world. There are places in and around the homestay for the guests to visit or go for a village walk or a hike. its filled with trees and birds and smiling faces of village people all along.
