लोणार सरोवर
लोणारचे सरोवर महाराष्ट्र राज्यामधील बुलढाणा जिल्ह्यातले खाऱ्या पाण्याचे एक सरोवर आहे. याची निर्मिती एका उल्कापातामुळे झाली. हे सरोवर औरंगाबाद शहरापासून १५० कि.मी. अंतरावर आहे. लोणार हे बेसॉल्ट खडकातील एकमेव मोठे आघाती विवर आहे. याचे पाणी अल्कधर्मी आहे. लोणार सरोवराच्या जतनासाठी व संवर्धनासाठी लोणार विवर हे वन्यजीव अभयारण्य म्हणून घोषित केले आहे.तसेच या परिसरात अंदाजे बाराशे वर्षांपूर्वीची मंदिरे आहेत. त्यातील १५ मंदिरे विवरातच आहेत. आणखीन मंदिरे आहे.
सरोवराची निर्मिती ५२,००० + ६००० वर्षांपूर्वी झाली असे मानले जाते. पण २०१० साली प्रकाशित झालेल्या एका शोधनिबंधात सरोवराचे वय ५,७०,००० + ४७,००० वर्ष इतके वर्तवण्यात आले आहे.
अमेरिकेतील स्मिथसोनिअन संस्था, युनायटेड स्टेट्स जिओग्राफिकल सर्व्हे तसेच भारतातील जिओलॉजिकल सोसायटी ऑफ इंडिया, फिजिकल रिसर्च लॅबोरेटरी यासारख्या संस्थांनी या सरोवरावर बरेच संशोधन केले आहे.
पूर्वी लोणार सरोवर हे _ज्वालामुखी प्रमाणेच भूगर्भीय प्रक्रियेमुळे निर्माण झाले असे मानले जात होते. पण एक अतिवेगवान धूमकेतू किंवा उल्का तिथे आदळल्याने ते निर्माण झाले असे सिद्ध झाले. तिथे प्लँगिओक्लेज नावाचे खनिज सापडले आहे. हे खनिज एकतर मास्केलिनाइट मध्ये रूपांतरित झाले आहे किंवा त्याच्यामध्ये प्लेनर डिफॉर्मेशन वैशिष्ट्ये आहेत. असे फक्त अतिवेगवान वस्तूच्या आघातामुळेच होऊ शकते. त्यामुळे सरोवराची निर्मिती उल्केमुळे झाली यावर शिक्कामोर्तब झाले आहे.
सरोवराचा आकार काहीसा अंडाकृती आहे. उल्का पूर्वेकडून ३५ ते ४० अंशांच्या कोनाने आली आणि आदळली.
सरोवराच्या वयाचे अनेक अंदाज वर्तवण्यात आले आहेत. थर्मोल्युमिनेसेन्स तंत्रज्ञानावरून काढलेले वय अंदाजे ५२,००० वर्ष आहे. अलीकडील अरगॉन डेटिंग वापरून काढलेले वय ५,४७,००० आहे. वयाचा नावीन अंदाज सरोवराच्या कडेला झालेल्या झिजेशी सुसंगत आहे.

Sigiriya or Sinhagiri (Lion Rock Sinhala) is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high.

According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this site was selected by King Kashyapa (477 – 495 CE) for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure — Sīnhāgiri, the Lion Rock (an etymology similar to Sinhapura, the Sanskrit name of Singapore, the Lion City).

The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.

Naida caves, Diu are located outside the city wall of the Diu Fort, which was constructed by the Portuguese. The caves feature a big network of tunnels with square hewn steps, which is yet to be fully explored. It is believed that the Portuguese during their reign hacked building materials from these caves.

You can reach Naida caves in Diu through Delwada which is the nearest railway station. The place is also well connected by road.

Diu’s greatest glory is the huge fort, a sight that justifies the long trip here. Diu Naida caves have a natural opening in the ground extending beyond the zone of light. Caves are formed as a result of different geological processes. Caves vary in shapes and sizes.
