"When the UPSC result came, I called my father. At that time, he was driving the bus. After hearing the result, my father said to me: – ‘Shabaash beta’ (Well done, my child). My father had never congratulated me before, so this brought tears to my eyes,” says IAS Preeti Hooda.

Preeti's father was a bus driver, but she never allowed her tough financial condition to become an obstacle to achieving her dream.

After school, Preeti's family wanted her to stop her studies and get married because of their dire financial condition. Preeti, however, convinced them to let her continue her studies.

After graduating and completing her Ph.D. in Hindi, Preeti decided to give UPSC CSE, choosing Hindi as her optional subject.

She failed to clear the UPSC exam on her first attempt in 2021. But Preeti did not give up, prepared even harder, and managed to crack UPSC as AIR 288.
