At an altitude of 1700 metres, it is surrounded by Chir Pine, Oak-Rhododendron and Deodar Forests. It is at the centre of a panoramic view of the mountains. Characterized by rich biodiversity with a variety of birds and wild animals, one can witness a flock of birds gathering right outside the camp early in the morning hunting for crumbs of food. It is also home to organic food and a rich culture
of folk dance and music. For adventure enthusiasts, there is a cluster of unexplored as well as centuries old trekking trails used by local villagers for transportation through mules and horses. Khirsu Nature Camp, situated in the Van Manoranjan Park in Khirsu village of Pauri Garhwal District of Uttarakhand, is a local community enterprise, promoted by IDS, RACHNA society, NABARD and Garhwal Forest Division. The peaks that can be spotted from Khirsu are Gangotri I, II, III, Kedarnath, Nanda Devi, Banderpoonchh, Gauri Parvat, Hathi Parvat, Jonli, Kedardome, Kharch Kund, Kirti Stambh, Trishuli, Bhagirathi I, II, III, Bharte Kunta, Bhrigupanth, Changbang and Chaukhamba I, II, III
