Mitrandir Journeys connection with J.R.R. Tolkien
Today is the birth anniversary of J.R.R Tolkien, an English writer who is best known as the author of the classic high fantasy works such as The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and many more.
In the trilogy called The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) character Gandalf, the wizard, is also called as ‘Mithrandir’ in fictional Sindarin language created by Tolkien himself!
Being an ardent follower of Tolkien’s stories, the name Mithrandir remained in our thoughts for a very long time and we decided to modify the word ‘Mithrandir’ which is originally formed using two Sindarin words Mith meaning Grey and ‘Randir’ meaning ‘wandering man’. We tweaked it creatively and come up with the combination of ‘Mitra’ and ‘Randir’! The word ‘Friend’ in our mother tongue, Marathi is called as ‘Mitra’ and it also represents Sanskrit name for the Sun, the constant wanderer of our universe!
And thus we got a forever connection with Tolkien through name of our travel company - Mitrandir Journeys :)
