Weekend Watch ~ India's Take on Climate Change

"A powerful message—spoken in the language of fires, floods, droughts, and extinctions—telling us that we need an entirely new economic model and a new way of sharing this planet. Telling us that we need to evolve." ~ Naomi Klein

In India, from a fifteen year old documentary 'Climate's First Orphan' directed by Nila Madhab Panda to 'Wade - 2D' animated near future short-film telling a tale of 'Refugees of Climate' issues of climate change are getting covered. In our Weekend Watch series, we will recommend this week two of such documentaries,

Climate's First Orphans
Year 2005, 10mins documentary, watch on YouTube
Directed by Nila Madhab Panda, set in coastal Odisha it talks about the several villages which have been wiped out by rising sea levels. The film refers to cyclones as a "dress rehearsal" to global warming-induced climate change.

The Weeping Apple Tree
Year 2005, 10mins documentary, watch on YouTube
Directed by Vijay S Jodha shows how the warming of the mountains and the vanishing snowfall have led to progressive decline in and shifting of the state's apple growing area, and the resulting shifts in the people's fortunes.

Did You Know?
In Kapurthala, India got its first Climate Change Theatre located at PG Science City.
