Punakha Dzong, also known as Punthang Dewa Chenpoi Phodrang, is the country's second oldest dzong, nestled at the confluence of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. The dzong is known for its beauty, particularly during spring when it is surrounded by the blooming Jacaranda trees. The lavender blossoms of the Jacaranda trees create a striking contrast against the dzong's pristine white walls, turning it into a spectacular scenery. The dzong currently serves as the central administrative center of Punakha district, the winter residence of the Central Monastic Body and continues to serve as the venue for important national events.
