കേരളത്തിലെ സംസ്ഥാന പക്ഷിയായ ഗ്രേറ്റർ ഹോൺബിൽ, ഗ്രേറ്റർ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഹോൺബിൽ എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ബുസെറോസ് ബൈകോർണിസ് വേഴാമ്പൽ കുടുംബത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ അംഗമാണ്. ഇത് കേരളത്തിലെ നിത്യഹരിത വനങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു, അവ പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഇന്ത്യ മുതൽ ഇന്തോചൈന, മലയയുടെ തെക്ക്, സുമാത്ര എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലൂടെ വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നു. ഈ വേഴാമ്പലുകൾ ഭൂമിയിൽ നിന്ന് 5000 അടി (1524 മീറ്റർ) വരെ സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. വലിയ വേഴാമ്പലുകൾക്ക് 4.5 അടി (1.4 മീറ്റർ) വരെ നീളത്തിൽ വളരാൻ കഴിയും. ശരീരം കറുത്ത തൂവലുകളാൽ മൂടപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു, ചിറകിന്റെ നുറുങ്ങുകളിൽ വെളുത്ത തൂവലുകളുടെ നിരോധനമുണ്ട്. ചിലപ്പോൾ 3 അടി (7.6 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ) വരെ നീളുന്ന വാൽ വെളുത്തതാണ്, കുറുകെ കറുത്ത തൂവലുകൾ ഉണ്ട്. ഈ പക്ഷിയുടെ കഴുത്ത് രോമങ്ങളാൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ബില്ലിന് മഞ്ഞയും താഴോട്ട് വളഞ്ഞതുമാണ്. വേഴാമ്പലുകളുടെ ഒരു പ്രത്യേക അടയാളം അതിന്റെ കൂറ്റൻ ബില്ലിന് മുകളിൽ തിളങ്ങുന്ന മഞ്ഞയും കറുപ്പും നിറത്തിലുള്ള പാത്രമാണ്, തല പോലെയുള്ള ഒരു ഹെൽമെറ്റ്, കട്ടിയുള്ള ആനക്കൊമ്പ്. കാസ്‌ക് ചെറിയ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളില്ലാതെ പൊള്ളയാണ്, എന്നിരുന്നാലും അവ ലൈംഗിക തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിന്റെ ഫലമാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ആൺ വേഴാമ്പലുകൾ ഏരിയൽ കാസ്‌ക് ബട്ടിംഗ് ഫ്ലൈറ്റുകളിൽ മുഴുകുന്നതായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. പെൺപക്ഷികൾ പുരുഷന്മാരേക്കാൾ ചെറുതാണ്, ചുവന്ന കണ്ണുകൾക്ക് പകരം നീലയാണ്. അവർക്ക് സാധാരണയായി ചെറിയ കാലുകൾ ഉണ്ട്, എന്നാൽ വീതിയേറിയ പാദങ്ങളുണ്ട്.

The state bird of Kerala ,The Great Hornbill, Buceros bicornis also known as Greater Indian Hornbill, is the largest member of the hornbill family. It is found in the evergreen forest of Kerala alsothey are distributed in a range from western India , through Indochina , south of Malaya and through Sumatra . These hornbills are found on sea level up to 5000 feet (1524m) above ground. Great Hornbills can grow to a length of 4.5 feet (1.4m). The body is covered with black feathers and the wing tips have a ban of white feathers. The tail, sometimes reaching up to 3 feet (7.6cm), is white with bans of black feathers across. The neck of this bird is surrounded with circle of fur. The bill is yellow and curved downward. One distinct mark of the hornbills is their bright yellow and black casque on top of its massive bill, a helmet like head and is solid ivory.

Green-eyed bushfrogs only occur in disturbed sholas, a type of high-altitude evergreen forests which are found only in the southern portion of the Western Ghats. This species has also been found near the secondary forest and tea and eucalyptus plantations after very heavy rains, from about 1 m (3 ft 3 in) above the ground, from thickets of Lantana or leaves of Eupatorium glandulosum. Like other congeners, this species breeds by direct development.

The green-eyed bushfrog is native to India and is known only from Munnar (1,410 m asl), Idukki district, state of Kerala, within the Western Ghats mountain range in India. In attempts to find how far the range of the bushfrog extends, surveys of neighboring areas have been undertaken, but the species was not found. So estimations of the extent of the range are less than 100 km2 (39 sq mi).

Indian Flying Fox(Pteropus giganteus) കേരളമുൾപ്പെടെ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പല ഭാഗങ്ങളിലും കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ഇനം പഴം വവ്വാലാണ്. ഈ വലിയ വവ്വാലുകൾ അവയുടെ ചിറകുകൾക്ക് പേരുകേട്ടതാണ്, അവയ്ക്ക് 1.5 മീറ്റർ വരെ എത്താൻ കഴിയും, ഇത് ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ വവ്വാലുകളിലൊന്നായി മാറുന്നു.
