Beji Griya Waterfall, Somewhere deep inside a jungle in Bali, Indonesia.

Bali has many waterfalls but this one is nevertheless one of the special and completely hidden in a forest of greenery. At first you only hear the sound of water and when you walk further down and WOW. There is the possibility to go through the waterfall.

Have you ever visit this Hindu temple built between the 8th and 9th centuries.

A priceless unfinished Pandiyan monolith cave temple.

Similar to the UNESCO world-famous Kailasa Temple, in Ellora, this is also carved from a single rock.

Constructed in the Pandiyan architecture and carved from single granite rock, the Vettuvan Kovil in Kalugumalai is the only known example of a Pandya era monolithic temple that was carved out in three dimensions, in-situ from the top of the hillock. Lord Shiva is the chief deity here. The temple is completed from the roof-kapota portion to the shikhara while it is unfinished at the lower level.

The fascinating aspect of the sculptures of Vettuvan Kovil is that they are in asana (seated) postures. Also, this is the only site where Dakshinamurthy is depicted playing the Mridanga (a percussion instrument), while in all other places, he is depicted playing the Veena.

About 7.5 meters of the mountain is excavated in a rectangular fashion and in the middle, the Vettuvan Kovil in Kalugumalai is sculpted from a single piece of rock. The carvings reflect the southern temple style of the Pandya era. Only the top portion of the temple is completed.

How to prepare to celebrate Mahashivaratri

Mahashivaratri is the most important celebration for all yogis around the world. It is the holly night of Shiva. As promised, Shiva bestows his Grace upon his devotees and worshipers, the Grace of stopping the chain of reincarnations, thus granting the spiritual liberation, and removing the biggest sufferance in the world: the ignorance.

There are many traditional rules that are respected in India, such as fasting with water or with special juice and eating only special food prepared beforehand, taking a ritualistic bath in the Gange for purification, reciting mantras and singing devotional songs, etc.

How can a western yogi prepare and celebrate this special day and night? Here are some suggestions that we can integrate in our routine:
- Keep a state of internalization as much as possible
- For a day, remove trivial thoughts and activities
- Take a few hours away from TV, smartphone, social media
- For a few hours refrain from over-talking, gossip, small talk
- Light a tea-candle in a dedicated place, and offer it to the Supreme, God or even to Shiva (and supervise it continuously as it burns completely)
- Play Mahamrityunjaya mantra (easily to find on internet)
- If you are initiated into the Laya Yoga meditation, you can do the Laya Yoga meditation with one of Shiva’s mantras (we offer this initiation in our courses of Esoteric Integral Yoga and Intensive Ta**ra Yoga)
- Create a special place, an altar, dedicated to Shiva, where you place fresh fruits, freshly cut flowers (or a pot with a beautiful flower or flowers), honey, and an image of Shiva (the one you like the most among the photos that are abundant on internet)
- Create a state of sacredness in your heart, by disconnecting yourself from the outside noisy world
- Bring peace into your mind and soul
- Be present Here and Now
…and you are ready for the special meditation of communion with Shiva on the special occasion of MAHASHIVARATRI, tonight from 11.00 pm to 01.00 am.

Shakti is sagun and Shiva is nirgun because Shiva's gunas were stripped off to let Shakti emerge. The androgynous energy split into two. Shiva became the non-reactive (potential) half while Shakti became the reactive (kinetic) half. This is seen in depiction of Mahakali wherein Shiva is immobile, lying down and Shakti is mobile, in charge. This is shown by her stepping on his chest. It is not an expression of shame but a representation of Prakriti's wild, untameable nature. Since, Shiva and Shakti are two halves of the same Universal energy flux, it is the manifested half of Shiva (Shakti) that steps on the unmanifested half (Shiva). The Shivlinga is a symbol of firmness, of immobility while Shakti demonstrates mobility. The minute we think we have perceived or understood Shiva, we have converted Shiva into Shakti. Shiva can never be perceived. It is beyond the senses. All that we can capture in our senses is Shakti - Maya. The minute we give a form to the formless, it becomes Shakti and ceases to be Shiva. So, we meet Shakti and not Shiva. Only upon death of the senses can Shiva be unveiled. Thus, it is said that Shakti is the dynamic Shiva and Shiva is the static Shakti. It is the same energy that is exhibited differently. Therefore, Shiva and Shakti are worshipped as a pair. While he is Shunya, she is everything but Shunya and together they make one complete unit. This is a subtle reminder to the Purush that his way is only through Prakriti.
