Decade of GOTG
A decade ago, on August 29, 2008, a group of 25 women set out on an epic high altitude journey from Ladakh - Manali, one of the most adventurous routes in the world. Travelling with a group of absolute strangers and that too with a newborn travel group that had zero experience managing trips, leave alone high altitude trips was beyond insane. There were teething troubles no doubt. But, the faith and encouragement from this group of ladies to carry on despite the odds turned this experimental trip to help women to travel into a full fledged community of women travellers.
Leading these spirited women was founder of GOTG Piya Bose. She had just quit her high paying job, but uninspiring job at a high paying law firm and had taken off on an impromptu trip from Lucknow - Nepal - Tibet. When she returned back home, she was filled with inspiration and the itch to help women travel, but was absolutely broke having spent all her savings while travelling. Despite several challenges, she started GOTG at the age of 25 years on a Zero Cash business model only using free will, imagination and lots of determination. Her TEDx talk on journey on how she started GOTG has been featured by Forbes as one of top 9 TEDx talks on travel globally :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKZ_JHRM3QU. For her decade long work helping women travel and innovating new travel trends, Piya has been awarded by PCTE University as Tourism Entreprenneur of the Year, by Women Economic Forum as Woman of Excellence and by UK based forum We Are The City amongst Top 50 Women Rising Stars.
Since 2008, GOTG has taken women expedition cruising to Antarctica, photographing Northern Lights at the Arctic Circle, exploring volcanoes at Reunion Island and Santorini, hiking down a meteorite crater in Lonar, trekking up to the Everest Base Camp, staying with the erstwhile head hunters of Nagaland, camping with nomads in Mongolia etc.
GOTG has also helped women using wheelchairs dive under water and helped women as old as 90 years travel to the Arctic Circle in winter to see the Northern Lights. We have also helped women travel absolutely solo to remote places like Arunachal. In the world of GOTG, age is just a number and the only barriers that exist are in the mind.
