We are extremely excited to announce that Kholey Dai Celebrations will take place from 15th-16th December in Parengtar;Jaldhaka, Kalimpong. 'Kholey Dai' is a harvest festival which is unique to Parengtar, in which the community celebrates rice- grain harvesting and perform daii( rice processing activities). This culture is slowly dying out from our midst, so to preserve this and pay respect to the ways of our ancestors we are going to conduct this festival. We warmly welcome everyone to be a part of it; to learn about our traditions, experience the authentic village of Parengtar and celebrate this auspicious moment of rice-grain harvesting with us.
We also want to thank Siddhanth , a talented artist from Guwahati for this beautiful logo in such a short notice.

02/10/2020

Gandhiji had uttered some powerful words which stated "Poverty is the worst form of violence" while on his way to address a prayer meeting. The systemic barriers that people in poverty face often manifest themselves in a deep lack of self esteem and a strongly ingrained sense of despair. He also stated "The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed". Faced with what they perceive as impregnable barriers, people in poverty find no one to blame for their failures but themselves. Even if they verbally blame others, to try to save face, they keep internalizing the poverty.

The purpose of this day is to honour the iconic and prolific leader, remember his selfless and terrific deeds and to spread love, harmony and patriotism among the masses. Let us follow the trails set by The Father of Our Nation and support our local businesses and be sulf sufficient. Let us all come together, spread brotherhood and harmony and love and serve our country in all the ways we can. Wishing you all a very Happy Gandhi Jayanti. Regards, Team Margha.

Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday in India and is celebrated every year on the 2nd of October to commemorate the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi popularly known as Bapu, Bapuji or Gandhiji. He is very commonly referred to as The Father of The Nation. He was born on the 2nd of October 1869 in the Kathiawad District at Porbandar in Gujarat. Gandhiji was formerly a barrister before he fought for the freedom of our country. We celebrate Gandhi Jayanti in honour of Gandhiji's selfless contributions and his struggle for our country's freedom as he is one of the most prominent leaders of the Indian Independence Struggle and is also very popular for his movements such as Non Violent Movement, Non Cooperation Movement and Civil Disobedience Movement. He was the pioneer of the Swadeshi and Boycott Acts in India. He also led the very famous Dandi March which is of great importance in India's history.

Mahatma Gandhi visited Darjeeling only once in 1925. However, he is said to have completed most of the 80 km of journey from Siliguri to Darjeeling on foot. At times he did use a rickshaw and a bullock cart but according to Deshbandhu Chitranjan Das, the scenery so enthralled him that he(Mahatma Gandhi) declared that the best way to travel through such a beautiful land was on foot.' Mahatma Gandhi was accompanied by Chitranjan Das and Anne Besant on his journey. Mahatma Gandhi is also to have been 'rather amused' by the Toy Train, but it is still uncertain and inconclusive that he travelled in it. "The Mahatma was not at all fascinated rather amused(by the Toy Train)."
