By the end of the debate, they had proven their infallibility. Unfortunately for them, one of the royal audience had met Ramanujacharya before. She informed the king of this deception. The king could not control his anger when he was disappointed at being defeated and betrayed. As a punishment for his betrayal, he was asked to accept and write that Lord Shiva is the Supreme Guru and God, and that Shaivism is the right path. For Vaishnava scholars, that was a greater punishment than death. Kooratalwar is fearless
He said to the king, "Who does not know that Dronacharya is the greatest Guru". Hearing this, the anger of the Chola king became uncontrollable. Both of them were ordered to gouge out their eyes. "My eyes, having seen you cheater, are no longer qualified to see my teacher," said Koorathalwar, and put his eyes in front of the king. Old man Periyanambi Mahapurna's eyes were brutally taken out. The question still remained whether the justice was on the side of the king because he lied and deceived the king or on the side of the Vaishnava scholars who told a small lie to strengthen the Vaishnava path by protecting the Guru. It was not only an immoral act for Krishnapaksa who lied and killed Dronacharya to win Dharma. Periya Nambi tragically succumbed to the pain on the way back after tasting both success and failure. Knowing that the king, who could not win with his disciple, took advantage of this opportunity to kill his teacher, Koorathalwar immediately sent a message to Srirangam. As soon as he received the ominous signal, Ramanujacharya along with his disciples left the Chola kingdom and fled to the Hoysala land. Proving his intelligence, devotion to Guru and home, Koorathalwar took shelter at Tirumelirunchola near Madurai. Even today, Inakoorthalwar is worshiped as a hero in Tamil Nadu and among the Vaishnavas.-S. K (to be cont'd)

സംവാദത്തിന്റെ അവസാനഘട്ടമെത്തുമ്പോഴേക്കും അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ അപ്രമാദിത്യം തെളിയിച്ചിരുന്നു. അവരുടെ നിർഭാഗ്യമെന്നു പറയട്ടെ രാജസദസ്സിലെ ഒരാൾ രാമാനുജാചാര്യനെ മുൻപേ കണ്ടിരുന്നു. അവൾ ഈ ചതി രാജാവിനെ അറിയിച്ചു. പരാജയപ്പെടാൻ പോകുന്നതിന്റെ നിരാശയും, വഞ്ചനയും കൂടിയായപ്പോൾ രാജാവിന് കോപം നിയന്ത്രിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. തന്നോട് കാണിച്ച വഞ്ചനക്കു ശിക്ഷയായി ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടത് ഭഗവാൻ ശിവനാണ് പരമമായ ഗുരുവും ദൈവവുമെന്നും , ശൈവമതമാണ് ശരിയായമാർഗമെന്നും അംഗീകരിച്ചു എഴുതിക്കൊടുക്കാനാണ് .വൈഷ്‌ണവ പണ്ഡിതരെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു അത് മരണത്തേക്കാൾ വലിയ ശിക്ഷയായിരുന്നു. നിര്ഭയനായി കൂരത്തൽവാർ
രാജാവിനോടായി പറഞ്ഞു " ദ്രോണാചാര്യനാണ് ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഗുരുവെന്ന് ആർക്കാണറിയാത്തത് ". ഇതുകേട്ട ചോളരാജാവിന്റെ കോപം അനിയന്ത്രിതമായി. അവരുടെ രണ്ടുപേരുടെയും കണ്ണുകൾ ചൂഴ്ന്നെടുക്കുവാൻ ഉത്തരവിട്ടു. " ചതിയനായ നിങ്ങളെ കണ്ട എന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾക്ക് ഇനി എന്റെ ആചാര്യനെ കാണുവാനുള്ള യോഗ്യതയില്ല " എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു കൂരത്തൽവാർ തന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾ ചൂഴ്ന്നെടുത്തു രാജാവിന്റെ മുൻപിലേക്ക് വച്ചു. വൃദ്ധനായ പെരിയനമ്പി മഹാപൂർണയുടെ കണ്ണുകൾ ക്രൂരമായി എടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു . കള്ളം പറഞ്ഞു രാജാവിനെ വഞ്ചിച്ചതിനാൽ രാജാവിന്റെ പക്ഷത്താണോ അതോ ഗുരുവിനെ സംരക്ഷിച്ചു വൈഷ്‌ണവപാത ശക്തിപ്പെടുത്താൻ ചെറിയൊരു നുണ പറഞ്ഞ വൈഷ്ണവ പണ്ഡിതന്മാരുടെ പക്ഷത്താണോ ന്യായം എന്ന ചോദ്യം അപ്പോഴും ബാക്കിയായിരുന്നു . ധർമം ജയിക്കാൻ കള്ളം പറഞ്ഞു ദ്രോണാചാര്യരെ വധിച്ച കൃഷണപക്ഷത്തെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു അതൊരു അധാർമിക പ്രവർത്തിയേ അല്ലായിരുന്നു.
വിജയവും പരാജയവും ഒരുമിച്ചു രുചിച്ച മടക്കയാത്രയിൽ വേദന സഹിക്കാൻ കഴിയാതെ പെരിയ നമ്പി ദാരുണമായി മരണത്തിനു കീഴടങ്ങി. ശിഷ്യനായ തന്നോട് കൂടെ ജയിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്ത രാജാവ് ഇതൊരവസരമായി മുതലെടുത്തു തന്റെ ആചാര്യനെയും വധിക്കാൻ സാധ്യതയുണ്ടെന്നറിഞ്ഞ കൂരത്തൽവാർ ഉടനെ ശ്രീരംഗത്തേക്കു അപായ സന്ദേശമയച്ചു. അപായ സൂചന ലഭിച്ച ഉടനെ രാമാനുജാചാര്യൻ തന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരോടൊപ്പം ചോളരാജ്യം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചു ഹൊയ്സാല ദേശത്തേക്കു രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. തന്റെ ബുദ്ധിയും, ഗുരുഭക്തിയും വീടും തെളിയിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് കൂരത്തൽവാർ മധുരക്കടുത്തു തിരുമേലിരുണ്ചോലയിൽ അഭയം പ്രാപിച്ചു. ഇന്നുംകൂരത്തൽവാർ ഒരു വീരപുരുഷനായി തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലും വൈഷ്‌ണവരുടെ ഇടയിലും ആരാധിച്ചുവരുന്നു -S.K(to be cont'd)

Ramanujacharya's fame spread all over India very quickly. Kulothumka Cholan was ruling the Chola Kingdom at a time when Vaishnavaism was becoming a major power. The king, who was a complete devotee of Shiva, invited Ramanujacharya to his palace for a Dharma discussion.
Acharya, who had converted many great men into Vaishnava followers through discussions and debates, saw it as an opportunity. If he won the dispute, he could bring the entire Chola kingdom to his path, but Kuresana, who had memorized the entire Brahma Sutra in a single reading, felt a hint of danger at this invitation. He requested that he participate in the discussion instead of Acharya. The Guru was completely satisfied with the ability and skill of the disciple. Koorathalwar's contributions in his discourses and literature were invaluable.
Koorathalwar came out wearing the same costume as Ramanujacharya. Periya Nambi, a wise old man, also got ready. Acharya, who was sure that nothing less than success would happen to them, blessed them as they waited for the blessing. Under the impression that Ramanujacharya, the Chola king received them and sent them to the audience. Shaiva scholars were waiting in the Rajasadass for the debate. On the assumption that if the Maharaja was successful, Vaishnavism could be uprooted, the king ordered a debate. But soon after the dispute began, it was realized that it was almost impossible to defeat the Vaishnava scholars. With immense knowledge and erudition, Koorathalwar and Periyanambi were advancing in all fields defeating the Saiva scholars. രാമാനുജാചാര്യന്റെ പ്രശസ്തി ഭാരതം മുഴുവൻ പ്രചരിച്ചത് വളരെ പെട്ടന്നായിരുന്നു. വൈഷ്‌ണമതം ഒരു വലിയ ശക്തിയായി മാറിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന കാലത്താണ് കുലോത്തുംങ്ക ചോളൻ ചോളരാജ്യം ഭരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നത്. പൂർണ ശിവഭക്തനായ രാജാവ് ധർമചർച്ച നടത്താനായി രാമാനുജാചാര്യനെ തന്റെ കൊട്ടാരത്തിലേക്കു വിളിപ്പിച്ചു.
ചർച്ചകളിലൂടെയും, സംവാദങ്ങളിലൂടെയും പല മഹാന്മാരെയും വൈഷ്ണവ അനുയായിമാരാക്കിമാറ്റിയ ആചാര്യന് അതൊരവസരമായാണ് തോന്നിയത്. തർക്കത്തിൽ വിജയിച്ചാൽ ചോളരാജ്യം മുഴുവൻ തന്റെ പാതയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരാം , എന്നാൽ ബ്രഹ്മസൂത്രം മുഴുവൻ ഒറ്റവായനയിൽ ഹൃദിസ്ഥമാക്കിയ കുരേശനു ഈ ക്ഷണത്തിൽ ഒരപായസൂചന തോന്നി. ആചാര്യന് പകരം തൻ ചർച്ചയിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തുകൊള്ളാം എന്നഭ്യർത്ഥിച്ചു. ശിഷ്യന്റെ കഴിവിലും, സാമർഥ്യത്തിലും ഗുരുവിനു പൂർണ വിശ്യാസമായിരുന്നു. തന്റെ ചർച്ചകളിലും, സാഹിത്യങ്ങളിലും കൂരത്തൽവാറിന്റെ സംഭാവനകൾ അത്രമേൽ വിലപ്പെട്ടതായിരുന്നു.
രാമാനുജാചാര്യന്റെ അതേ വേഷവിധാനത്തോടെയായിരുന്നു കൂരത്തൽവാർ പുറപ്പെട്ടത്. കൂടെ ജ്ഞാനവൃദ്ധനായ പെരിയ നമ്പിയും ഒരുങ്ങി. അനുഗ്രഹത്തിനായി കാത്തുനിന്ന അവരെ വിജയത്തിൽ കുറഞ്ഞതൊന്നും സംഭവിക്കില്ല എന്നുറപ്പുള്ള ആചാര്യൻ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചുവിട്ടു. രാമാനുജാചാര്യനാണെന്ന ധാരണയിൽ ചോളരാജാവ് അവരെ സ്വീകരിച്ചു സദസ്സിലേക്കാനയിച്ചു. സംവാദത്തിനായി ശൈവപണ്ഡിതന്മാർ രാജസദസ്സിൽ കാത്തുനിൽക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. മഹാരാജാവ് വിജയിച്ചാൽ വൈഷ്‌ണവമതത്തിന്റെ അടിവേര് പറിച്ചുകളയാം എന്ന കണക്കുകൂട്ടലിൽ രാജാവ്സംവാദമാരംഭിക്കാൻ ഉത്തരവിട്ടു. എന്നാൽ തർക്കം തുടങ്ങി വൈകാതെ തന്നെ വൈഷ്‌ണവ പണ്ഡിതന്മാരെ തോൽപ്പിക്കുക ഏതാണ്ട് അസാധ്യമാണെന്ന് മനസ്സിലായി . അപാരമായ അറിവും, പാണ്ഡിത്യവുംകൊണ്ട് കൂരത്തൽവാറും പെരിയനമ്പിയും ശൈവപണ്ഡിതന്മാരെ എല്ലാമേഖലകളിലും തോൽപ്പിച്ചു മുന്നേറികൊണ്ടിരുന്നു . വിജയത്തിൽ പരാജയമെന്നപോലെ അവസഘട്ടമെത്തുമ്പോഴേക്കും അവരുടെ ദൗർഭാഗ്യവും സംഭവിച്ചു . ഒരു ചെറിയ നുണ അവരുടെ വിജയങ്ങൾക്കു മുകളിൽ കാർമേഘങ്ങൾ പോലെ വന്ന് നിറഞ്ഞു .-S.K

The contribution of Srirangam and Ramanujacharya in shaping Vaishnavism was not small. All theories are strengthened by the wisdom and sacrifices of many people.
When species face great challenges, some make great sacrifices to protect them. Sri Kuresan alias Koorathalwar and Periya Nambi Mahapurna are two people we should remember when we come to Srirangam. They are the ones who once risked their lives to protect Ramanujacharya and Vaishnavism.
Ramanujacharya, who returned to Srirangam from Melkota after years, saw his dear disciple Kooratalwara who came to receive him without eyes. He was deeply saddened by the punishment his beloved disciple had drawn upon himself. Kulothunga Chola, a Saiva devotee, did not expect such a great punishment when the Acharya, who had set out for a double victory, was summoned to his palace for Dharma discussion. Even then, the satisfaction of being able to protect the Guru was in Koorathalwar.-S.K

ബുദ്ധി ( അറിവ് ) കൊണ്ട് ഭയമകലുന്നു. തപസ്സുകൊണ്ടു മഹത്തായതു ലഭിക്കുന്നു. ഗുരുശുശ്രുഷകൊണ്ട് ജ്ഞാനവും , ത്യാഗത്തിലൂടെ ശാന്തിയും ലഭിക്കുന്നു.

വൈഷ്‌ണവമതം രൂപപ്പെടുത്തിയെടുക്കുന്നതിൽ ശ്രീരംഗത്തിനും , രാമാനുജാചാര്യനും നൽകിയ സംഭാവനകൾ ചെറുതല്ല. എല്ലാ സിദ്ധാന്തങ്ങളും ശക്തിപ്പെടുന്നതു ഒരുപാടു പേരുടെ ജ്ഞാനം കൊണ്ടും , ത്യാഗങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ടുമാണ്. വിശ്യാസങ്ങൾക്കു വലിയ വെല്ലുവിളികൾ നേരിടേണ്ടിവരുമ്പോൾ അത് സംരക്ഷിക്കാൻ ചിലർ വലിയ ത്യാഗങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യാറുണ്ട് . ശ്രീരംഗത്തെത്തുമ്പോൾ നമ്മൾ ഓർക്കേണ്ട രണ്ടു പേരാണ് ശ്രീ കുരേശൻ എന്ന കൂരത്തൽവാറും പെരിയ നമ്പി മഹാപൂർണയും. സ്വന്തം ജീവൻ പണയപ്പെടുത്തി രാമാനുജാചാര്യനെയും, വൈഷ്ണവ മതത്തെയും ഒരിക്കൽ സംരക്ഷിച്ചത് അവരാണ്.

വര്ഷങ്ങള്ക്കു ശേഷം മേൽക്കോട്ടയിൽ നിന്നും ശ്രീരംഗത്തേക്കു തിരിച്ചുവന്ന രാമാനുജാചാര്യൻ കാണുന്നത് കണ്ണുകളില്ലാതെ തന്നെ സ്വീകരിക്കാനെത്തിയ പ്രിയ ശിഷ്യനായ കൂരതൽവരെയാണ്. പ്രിയശിഷ്യൻ തനിക്കുവേണ്ടി സ്വയം വരിച്ച ശിക്ഷകണ്ടു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അഗാധമായ ദുഃഖം തോന്നി. ദ്വിഗ്‌വിജയത്തിനായി പുറപ്പെട്ട ആചാര്യനെ ധർമചർച്ചക്കായി തന്റെ കൊട്ടാരത്തിലേക്കു ശൈവ ഭക്തനായ കുലോത്തുങ്ക ചോളൻ വിളിപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഇത്രയും വലിയ ശിക്ഷ പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചില്ല. അപ്പോഴും ഗുരുവിനെ സംരക്ഷിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞതിലുള്ള സംതൃപ്തി- S.K
