The Pygmy Kingfisher.
If you're seeing this on a standard laptop full-screen, you're seeing it about life-sized. That's how tiny it is. Unlike most other kingfishers, this one doesn't actually fish. Instead, it looks for worms and insects. It is also very skittish and hard to spot. We do have a resident Pygmy though, that lives in the bush behind our lounge. If you're a good boy or girl, sit patiently at the outdoor dining table, and sip your beer without a slurping sound, after some time it won't be able to quell its curiosity and most days will come out to look at you, from deep within the foliage.

If you're seeing this on a standard laptop, you're seeing it about life-sized. That's how tiny it is. Unlike most other kingfishers, this one doesn't actually fish. Life on the savannah is hard. Watch a wildebeest calf, perhaps only a few hours old as it literally finds its feet as it walks with its mother. Natural selection weeds out the weakest and least adaptable. And yet it's not just about, strength or adaptability. Sometimes it boils down to social support structures or just plain luck.
As we put our cameras away, a hyena tried to sneak in unnoticed and sn**ch the calf from its mother. It would have succeeded but for an aunt who put her own life at risk to charge the hyena. We caught the very end of that charge and had no time to zoom in. The calf survived to walk another day.

The hyena exerts the highest jaw pressure in the animal kingdom.
